Recyclus appoints top Battery Recycling Engineer to Development Team

Technology Minerals Plc (LSE: TM1), the UK's pioneering firm in establishing a circular economy for battery metals, is pleased to announce that its 48.35% owned battery recycling business, Recyclus Group Ltd ("Recyclus"), has appointed Anwar Sattar as its Scientific Director, utilising his extensive expertise in lithium-ion ("li-ion") battery recycling chemistries and engineering.

Anwar is a highly accomplished Chemical Engineer bringing with him over a decade of cutting-edge research and development experience consisting of:

-- Four years as a Lead Engineer and one year as a Principal Engineer in Battery Recycling, Re-use and Remanufacture at Warwick Manufacturing Group ("WMG"), working on the development of next generation battery recycling technologies

-- 18 months at European Metals Recycling (EMR) working on developing processes and strategies for the recycling of electric and hybrid vehicles

-- Two years at Axion Recycling working on the development of a black mass production line

-- Chemical Engineering PhD in Hydrogen and Fuel Cells from the University of Birmingham and a Masters in Engineering from Aston University

Robin Brundle, Chairman of Technology Minerals and Director of Recyclus, said: "I am pleased to welcome Anwar, who joins our team at Recyclus and I look forward to seeing the opportunities and contributions he will provide to the development team.

"Anwar will be supporting our accelerated roll-out of additional recycling plants across the UK. In addition, Anwar will be leading our programme for inhouse separation of the black mass from our recycling plants."

Anwar Sattar, incoming Scientific Director at Recyclus, said: "I am thrilled to be joining Recyclus at such an exciting time, as it continues to ramp up operations at the UK's first industrial scale li-ion battery recycling plant. Having experienced first-hand Recyclus' expertise in developing and manufacturing pioneering new technologies whilst part of the WMG team, I am confident that Recyclus will play an integral part in the UK's journey towards net zero."

Recyclus' first UK li-ion plant is operational and is receiving a steady influx of li-ion battery waste from various commercial sources for which it has already achieved up to 45% net black mass yield. It is the first industrial scale Li-ion battery recycling plant in the UK and is permitted to process up to 22,000 tonnes of batteries per year with the aim to process 8,300 in its first full year of production.

Recyclus has a strong existing relationship with Anwar, having held a collaborative partnership with WMG, the leading academic group providing research, education and knowledge transfer in engineering, management, manufacturing and technology, for a number of years. The partnership is a strong endorsement of Recyclus' expertise and innovation capabilities; most recently Recyclus was selected to supply WMG with a li-ion battery shredder following a competitive tender process, and WMG and Recyclus have also created an Engineering Doctorate programme focused on battery recycling technologies.
