Some 2,000 drivers working for seven U.K. fuel distribution
companies will next week vote on strike action, according to the
Unite labor union.
The ballot will affect around 90% of drivers delivering fuel to
U.K. gas stations for 11 oil companies, the union said, adding that
any strike action could affect the fuel retail operations of J.
Sainsbury PLC (SBRY.LN), Tesco PLC (TSCO.LN), Asda Group Ltd., a
subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), ExxonMobil's (XOM) Esso
brand and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA).
Among the distribution firms affected by the ballot are
Wincanton PLC (WIN.LN), DHL and BP PLC (BP).
Unite says the vote isn't about pay, but about "establishing a
forum to agree industry-wide best practise on safety, training and
terms and conditions."
