Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) said Wednesday that a unique contact
lens that quickly adjusts to changing light conditions has received
a medical device license in Canada.
Acuvue Oasys with Transitions, a two-week reusable lens, will be
commercially available in the first half of 2019. The lens,
developed with EssilorLuxottica SA (EL.FR, ELSOY) unit Transitions
Optical, received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in
April.
The lens reduces bright light, filters blue light and blocks
ultraviolet rays. On Tuesday, Johnson & Johnson announced
favorable data from two new studies of photochromic lenses, citing
benefits like improved driving performance.
