Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz said Thursday that its subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Energy has signed a cooperation agreement with Austrian engineering group Andritz AG to supply energy storage systems for hydropower plants.

"The hybrid energy solution offered by Mercedes-Benz Energy and Andritz combines a hydropower unit with a stationary energy storage, based on automotive lithium-ion battery systems from Mercedes-Benz," Mercedes-Benz said.

The stored energy can be quickly available and the system increases the flexibility of the hydropower plants, it said.
