RAE Systems Introduces Compact, All-in-One Radiation Detector and Dosimeter

RAE Systems Inc. (NYSE Amex: RAE) today introduced DoseRAE 2, a
compact and lightweight electronic radiation dosimeter with
patented dual-sensor technology and accreditation from a recognized
radiation testing facility. The direct-reading instrument provides
a combination of personal radiation-dosage monitoring and accurate,
real-time dose-rate detecting -- all in a single, credit-card-size
meter.
As part of a multi-pronged effort to support Japan responders,
RAE Systems accelerated its production of the new, versatile
DoseRAE 2 instrument to make it available to local and
international response teams in Japan. The DoseRAE 2 is now
available in the U.S. and is being deployed in Japan.
"We have received many calls from organizations and
international responders interested in detection equipment for use
in Japan," said Thomas Nègre, vice president of marketing for RAE
Systems. "We have ramped production on several lines in addition to
moving up production of the DoseRAE 2 to meet increased demand. We
hope our efforts can make a difference for the response
organizations and others on-the-ground there."
Dosimeter Meets Detector The DoseRAE 2 is
an alarming personal radiation detector that uses a diode and a
scintillation crystal to detect X- and gamma-ray radiation, and
provides real-time monitoring of personal dose and dose rate.
Instrument performance was tested and verified by Oak Ridge
National Laboratory in Tenn., a globally recognized lab for
radiation testing. With RAE Systems patented dual-sensor
technology, the DoseRAE 2 provides accuracy and quick response
across a broad-range of radiation levels, including one sensor for
low-end readings and another for monitoring high dose-rate
levels.
It's a durable and easy-to-operate instrument designed for use
by first responders and workers at nuclear power plants, research
facilities, hospitals and industrial locations, such as oil
exploration and imaging technology.
Key Technical Features
- Continuous digital dose-rate readout in rem/h, Sv/h and
R/h
- Continuously accumulated total dose readout in rem, Sv and
R
- Continuous datalogging with a large 3,000-point log
capacity
- Easy USB connection for downloading data while charging the
unit
- Programmable dose and dose-rate alarms with loud audible,
bright LEDs and vibration alarms
- Rechargeable, long-lasting battery life and extended
calibration life
DoseRAE 2 is suitable for use as a single stand-alone
detector/dosimeter or as part of a comprehensive dosimetry
management system using its associated reader and software package.
The instrument comes with a battery charger, USB cable and software
for downloading the datalog to a computer for easy data display,
analysis and record management. DoseRAE 2 complies with the U.S.
IEEE ANSI 42.40 standard.
Availability The DoseRAE 2 is available
