bleak this morning, with only two of the 15 markets that we follow
in positive territory. The cumulative average return on the group
stands at a 0.379-percent loss. In Asia, the Nikkei finished down
0.28 percent while the Hang Seng shed 0.29 percent. Last night,
Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony announced its
long-awaited, three-year restructuring plan, vowing to cut 10,000
jobs, combine television-making plants and streamline its
electronics division. The firm also stated that it would now post a
loss for the year on restructuring costs. In Europe, the French CAC
40 is leading the slide with a loss of 0.83 percent while the
German DAX has retreated 0.80 percent and the London FTSE 100 has
given up just 0.01 percent. The October futures contract on sweet
crude oil jumped 0.91 percent higher on Wednesday, fueled by
concerns regarding Hurricane Rita, which is threatening oil
production in the Gulf of Mexico. Get Free Stock Picks from Bernie

OPPORTUNITIES With a surge past the 8,500 level this week, India's
Bombay Stock Exchange is on a remarkable run that has seen it jump
more than 25% this year. This comes as no surprise, considering the
economy is forecast to grow 7% this year and is proving attractive
for foreign investors in search of better value and higher returns
than other powerhouse markets like China, whom some economists
think has played out investment-wise. While it's true that China
remains top of the American investor's 'hot list,' the effects that
India will have on American business are very far-reaching. For
example, if you compare India's three-year market performance to
China's, you'll see that Indian stocks outperformed Chinese stocks
by 6 to 1. India's stock market has doubled - while China's has
actually lost 25%. With statistics like that, it's somewhat odd
that India isn't receiving the attention it deserves from the
financial world. Another country whose economy is faring well is
Brazil. According to Bear Stearns, Brazil's economy will expand by
3.7% in 2006, as the twin combination of lower interest rates and
higher consumer spending propels growth. That's a significant
upward revision of 0.5% from the original 3.2% forecast. Following
an excellent 3.9% second quarter expansion and 2.8% first quarter
GDP growth, the Brazilian economy is set to grow by 3.3% this year.
