BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Help save
lives this September by donating at your nearest Coinstar®
kiosk to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's
largest voluntary health agency dedicated to fighting blood
cancers. During Blood Cancer Awareness Month this September, LLS
aims to raise awareness and funds to help fuel the discovery of
more effective treatments and cures and ensure that blood cancer
patients have access to lifesaving treatments.
Through its Coins that Count™ program, select Coinstar kiosks
allow consumers to donate directly to LLS with funds given to the
organization within 48 hours. Since the beginning of 2015,
consumers donated more than $10
million in coins to LLS via Coinstar kiosks. To find a kiosk
that accepts LLS donations, visit the Coinstar/LLS Kiosk Finder.
Consumers do not pay a fee when donating at Coinstar kiosks, and
the tax-deductible donations can be made in any dollar amount.
"Every three minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a
blood cancer, and more than 1.2 million people in the U.S. are
living with or in remission from a blood cancer," said Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., LLS president and
CEO. "Despite progress, more than one third of patients do not
survive five years after their diagnosis. That's why we're so
pleased to be working with Coinstar during Blood Cancer Awareness
Month, to raise awareness for the urgent need to find cures and
ensure that patients have access to lifesaving treatments."
"Coinstar is proud to support LLS in its goal to find cures for
blood cancers and ensure that patients get the treatments they
need," said Coinstar President Jim
Gaherity. "Through this collaboration, we aim to make it
easy and convenient for consumers to donate to LLS to help blood
cancer patients. During Blood Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage
people to donate their spare change to LLS at one of the thousands
of Coinstar kiosks located throughout the U.S."
In addition to finding more effective treatments and cures for
blood cancers, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides free
information, support services, and advocacy for patients and their
families. Every year, kids across the country collect small change
and donate it to the LLS Student Series Pennies for Patients
program at Coinstar kiosks, which directly helps cancer patients
and their families.
Since its inception in 1997, Coinstar's Coins that Count
charitable program has raised more than $90
million for U.S. charities. In 2016, Coinstar surpassed six
million lifetime donation transactions worldwide as consumers
frequently choose to use their coins for good and donate to
charities. In addition to LLS, Coins that Count charitable partners
include: American Red Cross, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals,
Feeding America, The Humane Society, UNICEF, World Wildlife Fund
(WWF) and others.
