CTIA -- Booth # 8706 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS)
(NASDAQ: TSYS), a leader in wireless location infrastructure and
applications, today announced its relationship with OpenTable,
Inc., the leading provider of free, real-time online restaurant
reservations, to empower its mobile users with enhanced wireless
reservation capabilities, including additional customized services
and the synchronization between mobile and computer reservation
services.
Working with OpenTable, TCS developed OpenTable for Mobile Web
utilizing wireless application protocol or WAP so that customers
can look up restaurants, check availability, and book or cancel
reservations through their mobile devices. Now, through TCS'
technology, OpenTable for Mobile Web users benefit from a seamless
integration between desktop and mobile services, permitting users
for the first time to view changes made from their computers on
their mobile devices and vice versa.
"Because of its long history and success in creating and
delivering wireless and location services, TCS was the ideal
partner to help design the OpenTable for Mobile Web service and
bring the convenience of our online reservation services to the
mobile user," said Mike Xenakis, OpenTable's senior vice president
of product management. "Now, mobile users can take the power of
OpenTable.com with them wherever they go, to instantly find and
book available tables at more than 10,000 restaurants."
The service is hosted and integrated with TCS' leading Xypoint
Mapping Server, allowing users to quickly and easily select
restaurants and make reservations based on their exact location.
Xypoint Mapping Server, a location-based services platform, enables
the development and deployment of location services within new and
existing applications. Supporting Web, mobile and on-board clients,
Xypoint Mapping Server provides a technology platform for client
applications to request and receive location, routing and
point-of-interest information, as well as generate maps and
directions.
"As consumers continue to become more reliant on their mobile
devices, wireless applications are becoming crucial to the success
of many businesses," said Drew Morin, Senior VP, Chief Technology
Officer, TCS. "We take pride in providing industry leading wireless
and location-based services that meet the unique and often mission
critical needs of our customers. Through this relationship,
OpenTable is expanding the flexibility and functionality of
OpenTable reservation services, improving ease-of-use and
accessibility, regardless of location."
The OpenTable mobile site is designed to mimic the simple,
streamlined reservation process offered on OpenTable.com, allowing
users to quickly identify restaurants with available tables and
narrow their choices by neighborhood and desired times. OpenTable
Mobile for Web is currently available to book reservations at all
OpenTable restaurants in the United States. In order to take
advantage of OpenTable Mobile for Web, users must have a
Web-enabled mobile device and subscribe to a data plan with their
carrier. OpenTable does not charge users to access the site or book
restaurant reservations; however, standard data and text messaging
charges from users' mobile carriers may apply.
