Pacific Investment Management Co. on Wednesday said it has hired noted London financier and philanthropist John Studzinski as managing director and vice chairman in its executive office.

The Newport Beach, Calif., bond manager said Mr. Studzinski will be based in New York and will report to Chief Executive Emmanuel Roman in the newly created post.

Pimco, a unit of German insurer Allianz SE (ALV.XE), said Mr. Studzinski will take a leading role in its expanding global strategy and will serve as an adviser to its top clients.

Mr. Studzinski last month stepped down as vice chairman of investor relations and business development and senior managing director of Blackstone Group LP (BX). He has also served as head of European investment banking at Morgan Stanley (MS) and deputy chairman of Morgan Stanley International.
