The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad purchased the
ORCA Green Machine™, a rapid compost accelerator manufactured by
Totally Green, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: TLGN), a pioneer in organic food
processing systems and compostable packaging alternatives. This
purchase is the latest in the railroad's efforts to support
sustainability initiatives.
The railroad plans to partner with local restaurants in an
effort to reduce the amount of food waste being diverted to
landfills. The ORCA Green Machine utilizes non-hazardous
microorganisms in conjunction with BIO-Chips. It comes in three
sizes and meets the needs of most industrial kitchens and
restaurants, as well as excels at meeting and exceeding corporate
sustainability initiatives. The railroad purchased the ORCA600
model.
According to Ed Lacy, manufacturer's representative for Totally
Green: "The machine composts up to 600 pounds of organic food waste
per day into harmless, nutrient-rich grey water that can be safely
put into the sanitary sewer system."
"The railroad strives to be the best in our on-going
sustainability initiatives," said Al Harper, president and CEO of
Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. "We are committed to
staying on the leading edge by embracing environmentally friendly
practices. Adopting Totally Green's technology is another way we
can make a difference for our community."
The railroad is also purchasing Totally Green's Ingeo™ Green
Bottle Spring Water. The Green Bottle Spring Water is packaged in
plant-based PLA, compostable material and filled with pure spring
water. "Our goal of converting our concessions operation to a fully
sustainable operation is now achievable," stated Gary Keil,
business manager at Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
"With the addition of the ORCA Green Machine and the Green Bottle
Spring Water, we will dramatically reduce our disposal costs and
increase the efficiency of our operation, while helping Durango's
downtown restaurants do the same through our partnerships with
them."
According to Lacy who is a Durango resident: "The ORCA Green
Machine has been installed by several high-profile customers across
a number of markets including, convention centers, cruise lines,
enterprise cafeterias, government facilities, hospitals, hotels,
produce growers, stadiums, supermarkets, and more. Totally Green is
also in advanced discussions for a number of new installations
across the U.S."
