Lee C Tashjian, Jr. Joins ARCO as Vice President of Communications

Lee C.Tashjian, Jr. has joined ARCO in the newly created position of Vice
President of Communications with responsiblity for the company's media
relations, corporate advertising, executive and crisis communications, and
electronic media.

Tashjian, 51, comes to ARCO (NYSE: ARC) from Fluor Corporation, where he served
as Vice President of Corporate Relations responsible for communications,
community affairs, investor relations, and philanthropic giving programs.

Prior to joining Fluor, Tashjian spent 14 years with DuPont Company in
increasingly responsible public Affairs and Executive Assistant (External
Affairs) to the Chairman of the Board.

Tashjian is a 1968 graduate of Ohio State University with a B.A. degree in
Political Science. Following military service in Vietnam, he held positions with
the Ohio Dept. of Transportation and International Harvester before joining
DuPont.

In announcing Tashjian's appointment, ARCO Senior Vice President for External
Affairs Mark L. Hazelwood said, "Lee will play an important role in helping to
achieve ARCO's worldwide communication goals pertaining to corporate identity,
reputation, accomplishments and future direction."
