German conglomerate L. Possehl & Co. mbH said Tuesday it is negotiating with Manroland AG's insolvency administrator, Werner Schneider, about acquiring Manroland's rotary offset printing machine business.

Closely held Possehl said it expects to complete the negotiations by the end of January. Should it acquire the unit, Possehl would aim to take over most of the employees at Manroland's plant in the German city of Augsburg and strike a long-term supply agreement with the company's plant in Plauen.

Possehl said it could seek to acquire a stake in the Plauen plant in the future, but doesn't seek to buy it or Manroland's Offenbach plant outright now.

German printing machine maker Manroland, owned by Allianz SE (ALV.XE) and MAN SE (MAN.XE), filed for insolvency in November.
