Seplat Energy PLC said Wednesday that it has become aware of
news and social media reports alleging impropriety in the securing
of ministerial consent for the acquisition of Mobil Producing
Nigeria Unlimited by Seplat Energy Offshore Ltd. and that the
reports are untrue.
The company said it will pursue legal action against any parties
involved.
Seplat Energy said Monday that it had received consent from
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for the acquisition of Exxon
Mobil Corp.'s shallow water assets in Nigeria. In February, the
London-listed energy company said it had agreed to buy the entire
share capital of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited for $1.28
billion plus up to $300 million contingent consideration.
