I would not be surprised to hear an announcement of an NLMK deal soon. There has been no news about the deal since May and the value was estimated to be more than $500m.

CLF pre-announces “trough” 4Q24 results:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cleveland-cliffs-provides-preliminary-fourth-123200578.html Fourth-quarter 2024 results expectations:

• Steel shipments of 3.8 million net tons

• Revenues of approximately $4.3 billion

• Adjusted EBITDA loss of approximately $85 million

Lourenco Goncalves, Cliffs’ Chairman, President, and CEO said: "Other than the COVID-impacted 2020, 2024 was the worst year for domestic steel demand since 2010. As the largest supplier to the automotive industry in North America, we were especially impacted by muted demand from this sector in the second half of the year. This was the primary driver of our weaker results, particularly in the fourth quarter, which we expect to be the trough as we look forward.

So far into this new year, we have already seen improvements in our order book, both automotive and non-automotive, and are confident that the manufacturing-friendly items on President Trump’s agenda will have an outsized benefit on Cleveland-Cliffs. This includes the recently announced tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China and the expectation that there is more to come on steel specifically. Stelco has been a major contributor since day 1 and a substantial portion of our expected synergies are already in motion. Based on their experience in 2018, we expect Stelco will benefit from steel tariffs as well. CLF also announced a bond sale of $750M, which has not priced yet (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cleveland-cliffs-inc-announces-proposed-123400124.html ). The proceeds will be used, in part, to repay the balance on CLF’s asset-based credit facility.

CLF reports full 4Q24 results on 2/24/25.

Canada, Mexico Steelmakers Refuse New US Orders
Source: Bloomberg

Some steelmakers in Canada and Mexico are telling customers that they are refusing new orders to the US on concerns that President Donald Trump soon will reimpose duties.

Canada’s Stelco has been telling US-based consumers it is pausing sales quotes, according to a person familiar with the matter. Mexico-based steel suppliers also stopped taking orders for material this week as they await potential action from Trump, according to Flack Global Metals, a large buyer.

Trump this week signaled plans to impose previously threatened tariffs of as much as 25% on Mexico and Canada by Feb. 1. While the two countries are exempt from a sweeping 25% steel tariff the US imposed during the first Trump administration, there’s increasing concern in the industry that the metal won’t receive a carve out.

“There’s a lot of trepidation and changing commercial policy by the Mexican steelmakers with regards to their approach to this market,” Jeremy Flack, chief executive officer of Arizona-based steel distributor Flack Global Metals, said in an interview. “They’re off balance because of this. They’ve gone from concerned to unconcerned to concerned again.”

CLF prepares_new_buyout_offer_for X—with_concurrent_sale_of_Big_River_to NUE:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cleveland-cliffs-partners-nucor-potentially-163940668.html Cleveland-Cliffs is partnering with peer Nucor to prepare a potential bid for U.S. Steel, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday.

Cleveland-Cliffs would purchase U.S. Steel in an all-cash deal, with an offer in the high $30s per share, the person said. It would then sell U.S. Steel's Big River Steel subsidiary to Nucor.
U.S. Steel's headquarters would remain in Pittsburgh under the deal.

The news was first reported by CNBC. I just listened to a 90-minute CLF press conference. LG did not offer any details, but it’s clear that a new buyout offer for X is coming.

There always been a lot of talk on shorting stocks of this company to keep the share price down.

IMO
Do this to kill the shorting.

Place your shares for sale at a price that is higher than the current market price. This will prevent your broker from lending out your shares to short sellers and reduce the amount of free shares that can be used for shorting purposes.

Then when you want to sell at your price, set sale at market price.

The CEO from Brazil started playing doctor and lost tract of the company and enormous debt.

Nobody seen it coming.

Could this Bunker be in Brazil?

I warned, that the CEO of Cliffs, should never send money to feed the enemy with a war going on. I can't believe that he even made it public. And then got involved promoting a plandemic, injuring employees across the board. Made public offerings, in cash bonuses. Are CC's being transmitted from this bunker since both CEO and CFO were carefully positioned?

I believe, the acquisition may be a front to remove Concaves.

Where is this Bunker and why did this pic surface? The consequences of playing war.

Update on Nippon-US Steel:

https://www.wsj.com/business/nippon-steels-u-s-steel-acquisition-plan-referred-to-biden-for-review-62ee98c5 Nippon Steel’s plan to acquire U.S. Steel has been referred to President Biden after a government panel reviewing the plan failed to reach a consensus.

The Japanese steelmaker said Tuesday that it had been informed of the matter by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S., which reviews foreign investments in the U.S. for national-security risks.
Nippon Steel said that it is confident that the transaction should be approved if it is fairly evaluated on its merits.

Nippon Steel urged the U.S. president to reflect on the steps the company has taken to address national-security concerns and the significant commitments it has made to grow U.S. Steel and protect American jobs. The company has pledged to invest $2.7 billion in U.S. Steel’s older plants.

…While Biden has yet to formally block the takeover, the White House has reiterated his position that U.S. Steel should be domestically owned and operated. President-elect Donald Trump has similarly rejected the Pittsburgh-based company’s sale to a foreign company. Stay tuned.

I was commenting on the recent selloff—i.e. the 26% drop since 12/2/24. The bigger drop for 2024-to-date is, of course, due to weaker steel prices.

Why is Cleveland-Cliffs Stock Down 50% This Year?
2:05 AM ET 12/20/24 | TREFIS
Cleveland-Cliffs (NYSE:CLF), a vertically integrated steel mill operator, has seen its stock decline by 50% since the beginning of the year as compared to the 28% gain in the S&P 500 Index. Cleveland-Cliffs downward stock price movement is much sharper compared to that for its peers, including VALE (NYSE: VALE) which is down 42% year to date, ArcelorMittal (NYSE:MT) which is down 13% year to date, United States Steel Corporation (NYSE:X) down 31% year to date, and Nucor Corp (NYSE: NUE) which is down 30% year to date. This fall has been primarily due to the adverse business conditions that the industry is going through.

Steel prices in the U.S. have witnessed a declining trend due to subdued demand in the domestic market with weak manufacturing activities. Globally, demand in the sector remains subdued due to oversupplies in the European market as well as high inventory levels in China. Cleveland Cliffs has a high exposure to the automotive sector, which continues to face challenges, leading to the company being more impacted than its competitors. We value CLF stock at about $14.50 per share, which is roughly 47% ahead of the current market price. At the current price of around $10 per share we believe CLF stock has room for improvement. Notably, the stock has moved down 70% from levels seen in March 2022.

… Some of the decline of the last few years is justified by the roughly 4% drop seen in CLF's revenues from 2022 to 2023. Revenue declined by around 12% in the first nine months of the current year to $14.86 billion…

Yes, CLF is a clear beneficiary from steel tariffs. My take on the recent selloff is that some investors think the Biden administration will approve Nippon’s takeover of US Steel despite having said they will oppose it. We’ll know in the next few days.

CLF seems to be falling off a cliff. Shouldn’t Trump’s pledge to slap tariffs on everything from anywhere, especially on steel, help boost the stock price?
