MCLEAN, Va., March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- WidePoint
Corporation (NYSE Mkt: WYY), a leading provider of Managed Mobility
Services (MMS) specializing in Cybersecurity and Telecommunications
Lifecycle Management (TLM) solutions, and Kyocera Communications
Inc., the leader in ruggedized mobile devices, announced that
WidePoint Certificate-on-Device™ digital certificates can now be
utilized on select Kyocera smartphones to enable advanced mobile
security features such as on-demand VPN by Mobile Active Defense,
Inc. (M@D). The integrated hardware/software solution will be
demonstrated at the AFCEA Homeland Security Conference, which takes
place March 10-11 in Washington, D.C.
The collaborative offering from Kyocera and WidePoint will be
marketed primarily to first responders, border patrol agents, and
other mobile law enforcement agents, particularly those working
under harsh field conditions. Kyocera's ruggedized devices, such as
its Brigadier and DuraForce smartphones, are built to withstand
severe environments, with Military Standard 810G protection against
water, dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, blowing rain,
low pressure, solar radiation, salt fog and humidity. They
also are certified IP68 for dustproofing and immersion in up to six
feet (1.8 meters) of water for up to 30 minutes and are certified
for use in hazardous locations (Nonincendive, Class I, Division 2,
Group A-D, T4). The secure WidePoint digital certificates enable
the M@D IPSec VPN, for trusted communications and strong
authentication to networks such as FirstNet, as well as critical
resources and data sources.
The solution brings a higher level of assurance to mobile device
communications without the use of an additional card reader or sled
for a smart card. Rather, the WidePoint digital certificates are
stored in a secure container on the Kyocera devices to provide
strong authentication used by the M@D VPN.
The integrated solution meets FIPS 140-2 key protection and
OMB Level of Assurance for transactions needing high confidence in
the asserted identity's accuracy. WidePoint's device and user
digital certificates are cross-certified with the Federal Bridge
Certification Authority (FBCA), and its issuance process is
compliant with NIST Special Publication 800-157, Guidelines for
Derived 6 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) 7
Credentials.
Kyocera is the nation's leading provider of ruggedized mobile
devices, including the Brigadier, DuraForce, and TorqueXT. The
waterproof, dust-proof, and ultra-durable Android smartphones are
certified to Military Standard 810G, are available off-the-shelf
from the nation's leading wireless service providers, and offer
compellingly low total cost of ownership (TCO).
John Atkinson, chief sales &
marketing officer of WidePoint, said, "WidePoint continues its
growth strategy within the US Federal Government marketplace with
this offering targeted to the needs of first responders and law
enforcement. The high level of assurance and ruggedized device
provides the protection required for trusted and reliable mobility
without the hassle of external cards and readers—a solution
urgently needed as cybersecurity threats become more sophisticated
and their ability to impact our national infrastructure
increases."
Spencer Cobb, chief executive
officer & chairman of Mobile Active Defense said, "We are
delighted to be working with WidePoint and Kyocera to secure mobile
communications within the US Federal Government. With the
pervasiveness of mobile devices, the industry has recognized that
trying to assign network-level identity management and security to
mobile continues to be a challenge as threats to the mobile
ecosystem evolve. This innovative, best-in-class offering solves
these key challenges and enables trusted mobile communications with
a seamless user experience."
Steve L. Komar, chief executive
officer & chairman of WidePoint Corporation, said, "WidePoint

Defense to deliver best-in-class solutions and expertise to
complement our own strengths in identity assurance and user
authentication. We look forward to presenting this and other secure
solutions aimed at eliminating barriers to managing secure, trusted
mobile computing and communications."
WidePoint will be demonstrating the use of its
Certificate-on-Device digital certificates to provide
authentication to the M@D IPSec VPN on Kyocera smartphones during
the AFCEA Homeland Security Conference at the Ronald Reagan
Building and International Trade Center, March 10-11, 2015, at WidePoint's booth #48.
