Japan Airlines Corp. (9205.TO) will receive capital assistance from the U.S.'s Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) in a move that would help revive the ailing Japanese carrier, the country's national broadcaster NHK reported Friday.

Delta will provide capital assistance worth several tens of billions of yen to the Japanese airline, commonly known as JAL, making it JAL's biggest shareholder, the report said.

Delta Air Lines was not immediately available for comment.

A spokesman at JAL said nothing has been decided with regard to the contents of the NHK report.
