MIPS32(R) 74K(TM) Processor Core Recognized for Innovation and
Technical Performance MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 20
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MIPS Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ:MIPS), a
leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processor
cores and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking,
wireless, communications and business applications, today announced
that its high-performance MIPS32(R) 74K(TM) processor core was
awarded a Leading Product Award in the Microprocessor and DSP
category from EDN China during its annual Innovation Awards
ceremony. The 74K cores were recognized as the embedded industry's
first fully synthesizable 32-bit processors to achieve operating
frequencies greater than 1GHz in a generic 65nm process technology.
A panel of EDN China judges, consisting of industry experts and
specialists from China's leading OEM companies, academic
institutes, universities and EDN China's editorial board chose this
year's finalists from a pool of nearly 200 entries, based on
innovative product design concept and technical performance.
Readers and registered users of EDN China were then invited to vote
for winners in nine product categories. "We are honored to be
recognized by EDN China and its readers for our innovative 74K
processor core, which is uniquely designed for high-volume
applications throughout the digital living room," said Jack Browne,
vice president of marketing for MIPS Technologies. "China's rapid
growth has created unprecedented demand for products like DTV,
set-top boxes, DVD players and recorders, broadband access, PON,
residential gateways and VoIP, markets where MIPS Technologies
holds a commanding position. Demand will continue to increase as
consumers look for more performance, greater functionality and
connectivity, lower cost and longer battery life in their devices."
"The goal of the EDN China Innovation Awards is to raise awareness
of leading edge technologies and applications within the Chinese
electronic design industry by recognizing companies for product
innovation," said associate publisher of EDN China Mu Qiang. "The
74K core is a great example of innovative technology that can
benefit SoC developers with the high performance and low power
consumption they need for their next-generation embedded designs."
The 74K core family is designed to work with generic standard
cells, memories and EDA design flows without the need for premium
physical IP or costly structured logic and custom design flows. The
processor family is optimized to deliver exceptional performance
levels as well as area- and power-efficiencies required for today's
complex SoC designs. Long-time MIPS Technologies licensee Broadcom
Corporation was the first company to license the 74K core in
January 2007 as an early access customer, and Infineon Technologies
licensed the core in August 2007. About MIPS Technologies MIPS
