On Track Innovations Ltd. (OTIV) filed a patent lawsuit against
T-Mobile USA Inc. for allegedly selling mobile phones that infringe
upon its technology for contactless payments.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. district court for the
Southern District of New York, On Track said Tuesday.
Officials for T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG
(DTEGY, DTE.XE), were unavailable for comment.
On Track said its near-field communication technology allows
mobile phones to process payments and coupons and to mine data.
The company--which develops and sells secure identification,
payment and transaction-processing technologies--reported earlier
this month it swung to a fourth-quarter profit as total revenue
jumped 60%.
T-Mobile is the fourth-largest U.S. carrier and the only one
without the Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone.
