Rocket Lab to Launch Global Wildfire Detection and Monitoring Mission for OroraTech

Rocket Lab will launch a dedicated Electron mission for first time customer OroraTech, helping to play a crucial role in protecting against wildfires globally

Long Beach, California. 22 January, 2025. – Rocket Lab USA, Inc. (Nasdaq: RKLB) (“Rocket Lab” or “the Company”), a global leader in launch services and space systems, today announced it has signed a contract for a responsive launch on Electron with Orora Technologies (OroraTech), a German company developing a satellite constellation to monitor wildfires and alert first responders to danger.

Launching from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, the dedicated mission on Electron will deploy eight satellites to a 550km orbit within just four months from launch contract signing, enabling OroraTech to meet the season-sensitive requirements of its wildfire detection mission. The rapid turnaround is just the latest demonstration of Rocket Lab’s responsive launch capabilities for satellite operators needing urgent access to space.

OroraTech is developing a constellation of satellites with thermal infrared cameras that can provide 24/7 monitoring of wildfires globally, supporting better and faster wildfire response to protect forests, people, and infrastructure worldwide. The mission will deploy its latest plane of satellites called OTC-P1 to their current constellation, further expanding OroraTech’s capabilities to first responders, governments, and industry partners. The company will expand their constellation with up to 100 satellites in total by 2028.

The mission is the latest launch to be announced in a packed 2025 launch manifest for Rocket Lab that includes the continuation of multi-launch contracts with constellation operators Synspective, Kineis, and BlackSky;; a responsive space mission for the U.S. Space Force that will see Rocket Lab build a spacecraft, then launch it on Electron with 24-hours’ notice; and the debut launch of Rocket Lab’s new medium-lift reusable rocket, Neutron.

RKLB Rocket Lab price target raised to $35 from $22 at Citi

Citi raised the firm's price target on Rocket Lab to $35 from $22 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares as part of a Q4 earnings preview for the aerospace and defense group. The firm expects to hear positive commentary from commercial aftermarket suppliers in Q4, saying traffic looks poised to grow above trend in 2025, and from commercial original equipment exposed names as production rates head higher. Further, defense contractors will be "somewhat balanced," with positive commentary on demand from Europe, but some level of caution on the US given the Presidential transition, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Citi also expects to hear positive demand commentary from business jet and space exposed names. The defense stock selloff "looks overdone" as investors have become too cautious on the outlook for defense spending, the firm contends.

Huge gap at $15. Space stocks out of favor right now. Spacex failure doesn’t help.
No Mars contract. Likely financing announcement in the next few months.
50-day MA at $22.50 and 200 day MA at $18.
Support line at around $20.
I think this stock will do well long term but for now I expect a move back to $20 or lower.
Anything under $20 and I will rebuy my $20 contracts but for a lot cheaper.

I wish I could say I timed it perfectly but I have been in the stock for over 2 years patiently waiting and adding when it dropped.

Don’t feel sorry for me. I have 78,000 shares at $6.80 a share. I’ll be okay if it retraces a little. I’m in it for 10 years, not 10 days like yourself.

LUNR trading better right now.
I go where the money takes me.
RKLB can’t hold $25.
It will need to find support at $22.50 and then $20. Worst case scenario is intra-day low of $18. I just don’t see any catalyst to move this back to $28-$30. Sorry my friend. It will be many months before it gets enough momentum to move back above $26.

You sound like a very short term momentum trader.  I used to trade like that - However, you make much more money picking good stocks and riding out the swings, rather than jumping in and off, but that is just my opinion.  I own the other two stocks you mentioned as well - at much lower levels, of course.

I guess just hope that the chart shows a reversal inverted hammer candle yesterday.
We will know by end of trading tomorrow.

Goldman Sachs target price increased to $13.50.
Usually target prices are higher than the current price.
Something strange is going on here that I just cannot figure out. I might have to re-evaluate my options since I am still in positive territory.

Clearly couldn’t hold $26 and now trying to support $25.
LUNR up 7% and RKLB barely up 3%.
Stock has topped out without a major catalyst.
Will likely continue lower until it finds support at $20.
I could be wrong. Hope I am. But, chart indicates weakness. Who knows.

Weakness? It is trading at $26 off an all time high of $30 - and a 52 week low of like $3.  We've come a long way and just because it isn't making new all time highs every day doesn't mean there is "weakness".  I wish all my stocks were as weak as to be up 800% on the year...

I have time. I bought Jan 2026 options several weeks ago.
But, still tough watching the stock show weakness which might last several months.
I think this market will drop 10% and rebound by April.

Extremely weak since failed $30 break last week.
Mars event was a definite non event. Stock topped out at $29.50.
Broke $25 support like it wasn't there.
Now back under $24 heading toward $22.50 (which is 50-day moving average).
Huge gap at $15 that might close if this weakness continues for the next several months.
Sorry, but I just don't see this moving higher in the near future.

I would expect it finance around $18-$20 but you never know.
Both ASTS and LUNR recovered today.
RKLB still trading near day low.
I expect it to retest $22.50 support and then likely back to $20 or lower.
The writing is on the wall.

Rocket Lab USA, Inc. (NASDAQ:RKLB) shares are trading higher Monday following the announcement that the company will play a key role in Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (NASDAQ:KTOS) $1.45 billion MACH-TB 2.0 contract.

What To Know: Kratos, a defense technology company, on Monday secured a five-year contract for Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonic Test Bed (MACH-TB) 2.0, a project designed to enhance the U.S. hypersonic flight testing infrastructure.

The initiative, established under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering’s National Hypersonic Initiative 2.0, aims to bridge the gap between ground testing and full-scale hypersonic system testing, reducing risks and accelerating development.

Kratos will lead Task Area 1 of the MACH-TB 2.0 project, focusing on systems engineering, integration and testing. Rocket Lab will provide air launch services as part of a larger team that includes Leidos, Stratolaunch and other subcontractors. This effort will support the increased frequency of hypersonic flight tests needed for national security objectives.

Kratos’ leadership emphasized the importance of the program in advancing affordable hypersonic technologies and highlighted the contract as the largest in the company’s history. The MACH-TB 2.0 program is expected to be a significant driver of future growth for Kratos, which also cited its existing hypersonic capabilities as a key factor in securing the contract.

"With the recent successes of our low-cost Erinyes Hypersonic Flyer and Zeus Solid Rocket Motors, Kratos is a leader in the testing and fielding of hypersonic systems. We are very excited to bring this unmatched expertise to the MACH-TB 2.0 program,” said Dave Carter, President of Kratos Defense and Rocket Support Services Division.

Rocket Lab shares are up nearly 200% over the past three months. The company reported better-than-expected financial results in mid-November and announced a multi-launch agreement with a confidential customer.

Rocket Lab guided for fourth-quarter revenue in the range of $125 million to $135 million. Rocket Lab is expected to report fourth-quarter earnings in February. Analysts currently expect the company to report a loss of 10 cents per share on revenue of $130.57 million, according to estimates from Benzinga Pro.

I am up ~160% on my 600 shares.

but, continuing with my LUNR call success (+$14k on paper since Mon am) I bought some Jan '26 $35 calls. Only 8, but what if we hit $50-100 by then? Plan is to hold them and the same exp LUNR calls for a year to save on cap gains.
