Company’s Family Scholarship Program Has
Helped More Than 300 Employee Families Pay for College
Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for
college company, today announced it has awarded $150,000 in
scholarships to 30 children of employees as part of the company’s
Family Scholarship Program. To date, more than 300 children of
Sallie Mae employees have benefited from the program, which has
distributed more than $1.6 million in scholarships.
The Sallie Mae Family Scholarship Program awards $5,000
scholarships, each of which is renewable for up to three years — or
up to $20,000 per student — until the student earns a bachelor’s
degree or certificate. For academic year 2017-18, the company
provided 10 scholarships and extended 20 scholarship renewals.
“Our mission is to help families achieve the dream of a higher
education and that also extends to our own family here at Sallie
Mae,” said Bonnie Rumbold, chief human resources officer, Sallie
Mae. “This year’s recipients are a diverse and accomplished group
of young people with interests that range from engineering to
nursing. We look forward to tracking their progress along with
their proud parents!”

designs of aeronautical engineering,” said scholarship recipient,
Bobby Marino. “I was honored to receive the Sallie Mae Family
Scholarship, which will go a long way in helping my family pay for
college and preparing me for a future career in aerospace.”
“I’ve always been passionate about expressing myself through my
personal style and fashion, but I know that behind the glitz and
glamour of the runway, there is an important business and technical
side of the industry,” said upcoming college freshman and
scholarship recipient, Sarah Muhs. “Thanks to the Sallie Mae Family
Scholarship, I am one step closer to learning how to gain the
skills and confidence I need to help make my dream come true of
someday working in the highly-competitive fashion industry.”
