Visteon Innovations Find a Home ... In Your Vehicle DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- What do most consumers look for in a non-office environment where they spend between 250 and 550 "waking hours" per year? Visteon Corporation knows the answer ... style, comfort, convenience, communication, entertainment and information. The challenge is to provide these features, make them easy to use and operate as expected, regardless of extreme weather (wet, heat, cold) and vibration. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001201/DEF008LOGO ) Visteon's exhibit at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show (Booth SE5) in Las Vegas, NV features several concept vehicles demonstrating wireless technology and consumer-demanded features like new concepts in Family Entertainment Systems and voice-activated MP3 streaming from a portable device. Visteon will also demonstrate the all-new Boston Acoustics premium audio system available this year on the Chrysler 300 family of vehicles and the Dodge Magnum, and much more. Wireless Concepts From wireless charging stations to wireless entertainment and home security, Visteon has integrated an array of technologies to demonstrate concepts for future wireless and home connectivity. The wireless connectivity vehicle brings entertainment and computing access into the vehicle and home again. In addition, personal pre-sets can bring you home into the environment that suits your needs -- wirelessly turning on the lights, starting dinner, adjusting the home heating/cooling system to the desired temperature and adding the finishing touch of music or a movie -- everything just the way you like it after a long day away. Visteon integrated a wireless charging pad into the console of the vehicle, eliminating the need for power cords, cradles and adapters. The technology wirelessly charges cell phones, personal digital assistants and other small portable devices. Consumer Focused Aftermarket and Original Equipment Technology Concepts Visteon leverages its consumer insight to provide technology to automakers and consumers. This unique capability results in industry leading audio system developments and award winning technology applications, such as the first factory-installed Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) player found today in the GM mid-sized family of Sport Utility Vehicles -- Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Oldsmobile Bravada and the Buick Rendezvous. Visteon's newest concept in family entertainment is the Dockable Family Entertainment System(TM). Visteon adapted a consumer market DVD player to lock into place into the vehicle's headliner. This unique system allows the DVD player to be removed from the vehicle with the touch of a hand, for viewing both in and out of the vehicle. In addition, this new design provides a larger viewing screen to make any trip more enjoyable. This new system can be rapidly developed as a factory-installed original equipment option or easily installed as an aftermarket product. Visteon innovations include award-winning concepts like Visteon's Vehicle Recovery System(TM). This advanced Global Positioning System (GPS) - based vehicle recovery and tracking technology is being field-tested. Once development work is complete, this system could give consumers convenient, 24- hour/seven-day-a-week ability to track vehicle location and operating status through an Internet site. In addition, consumers could receive instant theft notification through cellular phones and enjoy options including remote door unlocking, concierge services, navigation assistance, personalized trip routing, and low-battery charge notification. Visteon's audio expertise goes beyond the technology. It begins with the consumer and the features they are looking for. Visteon knows the younger generation likes to hear the bass. But because the human ear is insensitive to bass frequencies at low volume, enhancing the bass adds to the enjoyment of many types of music. Visteon's Bass Sensation(TM) adds new sensory excitement to listening. This audio concept transfers the bass and sub-bass frequencies in the vehicle through the attaching surfaces to the occupants, allowing the occupants to "feel the music." This system delivers an effect nearly equal to that of two 15-inch subwoofers while taking up a fraction of the space. Audio Systems When it comes to automotive audio systems, Visteon is an innovator and a global leader. Visteon announced several partnerships and innovations at CES in recent years. This year, Visteon is delivering -- announcing production of unique original equipment audio systems around the world. In 2002 Visteon announced a partnership with Boston Acoustics. This year, Visteon and Boston Acoustics are pleased to announce this unique audio system will be available on the 300 family of Chrysler Group vehicles and the Dodge Magnum in North America later in 2004. Last year, Visteon described a new relationship with Sony. As a result of this relationship Visteon and Sony are providing Sony-branded audio systems in Europe on several Ford Motor Company vehicles this year. Visteon's innovations lead the way in finding new ways to deliver technology to automakers and consumers more quickly. While the auto industry wrestled with the issue of interoperability for satellite radio, Visteon developed the capability of providing a single radio that works with both XM and SIRIUS Satellite radio. Today, Visteon supplies SIRIUS Satellite radio systems to Ford Motor Company and others and will also provide both XM and SIRIUS Satellite receivers to Nissan for future products. But innovation doesn't stop with satellite radio or digital audio playback systems. Innovation continues to advance digital audio though the introduction of HD Radio(TM) and Visteon is the leader in development of factory-installed HD Radio(TM). Visteon provided several of the demonstration and development units that allowed local broadcast stations to verify the transmission of digital signals, and was the first supplier of factory- installed audio systems to announce a contract with a European-based automaker. This technology enables consumers to receive a digital signal through Visteon MACH DSP(TM) enabled radios. This technology provides CD- quality audio with crystal clear reception for FM signals. In addition, AM signal quality is enhanced to the clarity of today's FM signal. The combination of digital broadcasting and Visteon MACH DSP technologies provide the additional opportunity to transmit and utilize wireless data for a variety of consumer applications. The consumer applications could include station and program content, like song title and artist name, stock and news information, local traffic and weather, etc. Wireless in Production Visteon is committed to developing technology that will deliver the comforts of home while helping to make drivers better and more efficient. This commitment focuses on Visteon's efforts to deliver affordable, innovative wireless solutions, providing hands-free access to information and communications systems. Wireless systems continue to prove their value to consumers and gain popularity around the globe. This year, Visteon will reach a new level of distinction, being the first and only supplier of an integrated, factory-installed voice-activated Bluetooth(R) wireless system in automotive production on both sides of the ocean. Today, Visteon supplies the Bluetooth Wireless Interface Module in Europe for the BMW 3 and 5 Series. In 2004 BMW will offer this capability in North America on the X3 and X5. Visteon continues to develop new and innovative features using Bluetooth and Visteon Voice Technology(TM). This year at CES, Visteon will demonstrate how music from a portable MP3 player or PDA can be streamed into a vehicle's audio system using Bluetooth and voice activation playback -- delivering wireless access to entertainment while allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Visteon selected Bluetooth as the production technology for in-vehicle wireless solutions to maximize the battery life in today's portable devices. Visteon Corporation is a leading full-service supplier that delivers consumer-driven technology solutions to automotive manufacturers worldwide and through multiple channels within the global automotive aftermarket. Visteon has about 75,000 employees and a global delivery system of more than 180 technical, manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 25 countries. http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001201/DEF008LOGO DATASOURCE: Visteon Corporation CONTACT: Robin Pannecouk, +1-313-755-9121, , or Greg Gardner, +1-313-755-0927, , both of Visteon Corporation Web site: http://www.visteon.com/
