SANTA CLARA, Calif.,
Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In an
innovative partnership rolling out first at Rutgers University, Chegg, the Student
Hub®, has partnered with The Tyler Clementi Foundation
and the Tyler Clementi Center at Rutgers to greet incoming freshmen with a #Day1
Welcome Package, welcoming students, fostering their health and
wellness and providing an important reminder that bullying and
humiliation of your peers is not ok at college.
The program, inspired by the Tyler Clementi Foundation's #Day1
Campaign, is designed to set a tone for students, athletes and
workers at the beginning of their tenure that bullying, harassment
and humiliation are unacceptable and encourage students to speak up
and intervene when they witness aggression of this kind.
"We are excited to roll out these Day1 boxes at a big ten
school; the school Tyler attended. We hope next year to have a
dozen colleges on board," said Sean
Kosofsky, Executive Director for the Tyler Clementi
Foundation.
"During their first month on campus, students are adjusting to
many exciting and stressful changes: challenging coursework, new
and unfamiliar living spaces and exchanges with peers from many
different backgrounds. The #Day1 Welcome Package is a
unique way to welcome students, highlight a major point of pride-
our ranking as the most diverse institution within the Big 10
Network, and to introduce important university resources like
campus counseling services, health services, victim assistance,
public safety, etc. The Tyler Clementi Center is proud
to be leading the way on this effort and we encourage universities
around the country to participate."
"Chegg is honored to be part of the Rutgers #Day1 campaign," said Danielle Malloy, Director of Marketing Solutions
at Chegg. "For years, we have included back-to-school items and
offers from our brand partners in the textbook boxes we send to
students. We know that these types of surprise and delight moments
get their attention. The #Day1 box is special because it
sends a powerful and affirming message while also helping students
transition to independence. We want to extend a special thanks to
our brand partners for providing items to help students get the
best start from day one."
Tyler Clementi died by suicide in
September 2010, only weeks after
arriving as a freshman, following online ridicule and humiliation
by his roommate.
