Ford Motor Co (F) has developed a concept noise-canceling kennel
to protect dogs' ears from firework sounds, the first project in
its initiative to find new uses for automotive technology, the
Detroit car maker said Tuesday.
When microphones in Ford's kennel detect the sound of fireworks,
a built-in audio system sends out frequencies to cancel out the
noise, Ford said.
"We wondered how the technologies we use in our cars could be
applied to help in other situations," Lyn West, brand content
manager at Ford of Europe, said.
Ms. West said the company has a "few more ideas in progress" to
apply Ford's expertise to everyday lives as part of its
Interventions initiative.
For now, the kennel, which also features an automatic door, is
only at the concept stage, Ford said.
