L Brands Inc. (LB) said Thursday that sales fell at the start of the year, but the company reported gains over longer time frames.

The retailer and owner of the Victoria's Secret brand reported net sales of $780.1 million for the four-week period that ended Feb. 2, a decline from the same period last year, when the retailer reported $1.04 billion in net sales over five weeks. Sales over comparable four-week periods fell 1%.

Net sales for the quarter that ended Feb. 2 ticked up from $4.85 billion from $4.82 billion the year earlier. Adjusting for the extra week a year ago, sales rose 3%, the company said.

For the year that ended Feb. 2, L Brands reported sales of $13.24 billion, up from $12.63 billion over 53 weeks. Revenue was up 3% when comparing 52-week periods.
