Recognition for Coffee Grown at Show Case Farm in Brazil
Harvest Minerals Limited, the AIM listed remineraliser producer,
has received notable recognition for its coffee beans produced at
its Arapua Fertiliser Project ('Arapua') show farm located in the
heart of the Brazilian agricultural belt, Minas Gerais.
Brian McMaster, Chairman of Harvest, said: "We believe that
using sustainable, natural products to nourish plants will return
healthier plants and consequently higher-quality harvests. We are
therefore delighted that this has been proven at our Arapua show
farm where in just two and a half years we have produced speciality
coffee, which is on a level with the big coffee producers in the
region, including several of our own clients. We look forward to
harvesting future crops and anticipate generating increasingly
superior results with the continuous use of our organic fertiliser,
KPFértil."
Details
As part of its sales strategy, in December 2018, the Company
established a farm at Arapua to showcase the effects of its proven,
multi-nutrient fertiliser, KPFértil, on certain crops. Given the
State of Minas Gerais' large volume of coffee producers (the region
accounts for c.50% of Brazil's coffee production), the farm
included a variety of coffee (Catuai Vermelho 144), which, on
analysis, has recently returned a speciality coffee with 87 SCAA
points; specialty coffee is a term used to refer to coffee that has
scored over 80 points on a 100-point scale by the Speciality Coffee
Association of America ('SCAA').
Accordingly, the Company was invited to enter its coffee in the
Carmocer Contest, a well-known Brazilian contest, where it reached
sixth place in the final. First place was won by Ricardo Bartholo,
a Harvest client who also uses KPFértil; following the win, a 60kg
bag of his coffee was sold at the associated auction for
R$55,000,00.
