                        #150m Boost for Alfred McAlpine

Alfred McAlpine plc (McAlpine) today announces that it has added #150 million to
its order-book. The new wins are spread across McAlpine's businesses.

McAlpine Business Services has been awarded new FM contracts with Shell and
Ashurst in London, information systems order for Coventry City Council and a
major workplace consultancy assignment for SGP Property Services.

McAlpine Infrastructure Services has won new telecoms infrastructure work with
Nokia and Network Rail and McAlpine Capital Projects has secured contracts to
build a school and community centre in New Tredegar, the A419 Blunsdon bypass
near Swindon for the Highways Agency and new environmental facilities for Astra
Zeneca near Bristol.

Ian Grice, McAlpine's chief executive said:

'McAlpine is a service business focused on the built environment. Following a
series of acquisitions, we re-shaped the company at the start of the year to
create three major businesses - Business Services, Capital Projects and
Infrastructure Services.

'These businesses have all bedded in well and it's highly encouraging to see the
order book increasing in each of them. We are continuing to focus on clients who
value McAlpine's solutions and service capability and, as planned, we are
securing a mix of project-work and term-contracts that will run for three years
or more. This is giving the business a longer-term and higher quality earnings
base'.

Notes to Editors

   * McAlpine is a service business focused on the built environment. It
employs nearly 8,000 people and operates through three principal business
     streams:
       * Business Services - which focuses on facilities and asset management,
information systems, and workplace advisory services.

       * Capital Projects - which focuses on construction and civil
         engineering services.

       * Infrastructure Services - which focuses on utilities and highways
         maintenance and renewal.

   * Each business stream accounts for approximately one third of the
     company's sales (#768m in 2002).

   * McAlpine has restructured its business over the last two years, moving
out of house-building (it sold its homes business to Wimpey in 2001) and
making seven acquisitions to establish its Infrastructure Services and
     Business Services operations.
