InterSearch Group, Inc. (AMEX: IGO), a leading operator of industry
specific destination portals such as www.IRS.com, www.Banks.com,
and www.Camps.com and provider of Internet search services, today
denounced erroneous news reports falsely attempting to link its
independent tax-resource website IRS.Com - to tax scams or
other illegal activities and demanded that news outlets who
disseminate such information correct their false statements.
InterSearch Group is in no way involved in activities that could
be construed to mislead or defraud consumers, and we are dismayed
that otherwise reputable news outlets would communicate stories
that falsely imply otherwise, said Dan ODonnell, Chairman and CEO
of InterSearch Group. We hereby demand that all such false news
reports be corrected and that the media honor its duty of honest
and factual reporting to the public. We strongly believe that it
is important for consumers to be on the alert for websites which
provide false or misleading information to the public. InterSearch
Group is not engaged in such activities, ODonnell continued.
The fundamental goal of IRS.Com is to make it easier for consumers
and taxpayers to find safe and reliable solutions to tax-related
problems along with resources for secure online filing. InterSearch
Group makes every effort to ensure that visitors to IRS.Com do not
confuse our website with that of the Internal Revenue Service.
Additionally, personal information is never requested from users on
IRS.Com. Instead, our site assists taxpayers by providing links to
reputable companies that provide taxpayers e-file and free file
services. Finally, we are proud to note that InterSearch Group has
welcomed over 25 million visitors to the site and, to our
knowledge, has not received any formal complaints. IRS.Com has
taken the following critical steps to clearly distinguish itself
from the Internal Revenue Service site, www.irs.gov: IRS.Com
specifically advises visitors that it is the #1 INDEPENDENT
Resource for Tax Information, and that IRS.Com is NOT the official
website of the Internal Revenue Service. IRS.Com advises visitors
at the top and bottom of every page of the site that there is no
affiliation between IRS.Com and the Internal Revenue Service.
IRS.Com provides a link from IRS.Com to the Internal Revenue
Service website IRS.gov. IRS.Com devotes an entire page to consumer
awareness regarding tax scams. IRS.Com includes in its disclaimer
that it is privately owned and operated. We believe that our
companys track record of excellence speaks for itself: consumers
and visitors find our site useful and straightforwardand we
strongly object to the news media attempting to convey a false
impression to the contrary, ODonnell concluded. About InterSearch
