ACS Saves Oklahoma Residents Thousands of Dollars per Year With New Payment System

PR Newswire (US)
DALLAS, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oklahoma residents are
benefiting from new payment services provided by Affiliated
Computer Services, Inc. (ACS) in conjunction with the Oklahoma
Department of Human Services (OKDHS). The OKDHS Electronic Payment
Systems contract with ACS saves Oklahoma tax-payers approximately
$425,000 per year while improving service to more than 400,000
residents receiving food stamp benefits, child care assistance and
cash payments for temporary assistance to needy families, child
support and State Supplemental Assistance to elderly and disabled
residents. The new system is the nation's first debit card system
that returns money to the state instead of holding it in the bank
when cards are undeliverable or have not been pinned within 90
days. This eliminates postal delays and helps prevent theft. Along
with the cost saving features, customers are able to access all
account data on-line. They can view transaction activity and view
each deposit made to the account by program and child. A customer
call center is also available to assist with the transition into
the program. "This was the successful conversion of two very
complicated systems," Lisa Henley, OKDHS Director of Electronic
Payments, said. "Without ACS, Oklahoma would have never experienced
the success to the degree that we have with this project or saved
the amount of money that we are now saving with it." Due to the
success of the conversion of these benefit payment systems and the
cost savings and benefits to participants, OKDHS and its partner
ACS received three OKDHS Quality Awards, three individual
Governor's awards and the American Public Human Services
Association's "Collaboration Across Boundaries" award. "The state
demonstrated insight and dedication to implement an effective and
reliable system to benefit state residents," David Schneider,
Oklahoma Project Manager for Electronic Benefits Services, said.
"Our association with the State and its willingness to explore new
technology and solutions to problems has proven success in serving
the citizens of Oklahoma." About ACS ACS, a global FORTUNE 500
