TracVision A5 Satellite TV Systems Bring Live News, Entertainment
to Business Customers Traveling Daily from Boston to New York
Thousands of Boston-to-New York business travelers are ditching the
long lines and hassles of trains, planes, and their automobiles and
opting to travel to the Big Apple and Beantown in style.
Massachusetts-based LimoLiner gives them that opportunity. The
custom-made, 28-passenger luxury motor coach offers mobile
professionals high-quality, personal business services that enable
them to be productive during their commute, including DIRECTV(R)
digital satellite television programming. Thanks to the
TracVision(R) A5 satellite TV antenna system from KVH Industries,
Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI), passengers are able to keep up-to-date with
all of the latest news, entertainment, and sports information
playing on flat screen TVs while they travel. Offering seat side
power outlets, unlimited wireless Internet access, and constant,
clear cell phone reception, LimoLiner allows passengers to make the
most of their long commute. "We chose to have DIRECTV service on
board as an amenity that our customers would find valuable. It's a
way for them to stay in touch with breaking news, to stay abreast
of what is going on," said Peter J. Pescatore, chief executive
officer of LimoLiner, Inc. "The TracVision A5 completed the
high-end amenities package for us. A leisurely boarding is followed
by attentive service and your choice of media and communication
options to help you relax or work. LimoLiner is elegant and
civilized. It's about how you choose to use your time". LimoLiner
(www.limoliner.com) welcomed 20,000 passengers in its first year of
business last year, and the momentum is building. During the
four-hour commute, which runs four times a day, passengers enjoy
reclining leather seats, personal pillows and blankets, a washroom
complete with fresh flowers, and a personal attendant. Mark J.
Reagan, a consultant from New York City, commented on the service:
"LimoLiner provides a better meal than an airplane, made fresh and
delivered that day, complimentary drinks, and has flat screen TVs
with satellite, so I caught CNN on the ride down...Forget
Greyhound, forget Amtrak, even the airlines. LimoLiner is the way
to roll...Literally!" Television in vehicles, especially in
limousines and coaches, has been tried before. However, it has been
a dubious experience filled with static and rolling pictures
because over-the-air TV signals become distorted when received by a
moving antenna. To solve this problem and offer crystal-clear
television, KVH built on its experiences in the marine and RV
markets and developed the 5-inch high TracVision A5 for
automobiles. This award-winning system uses KVH's hybrid
phased-array technology (U.S. patent #6,856,300 and #D493,164) to
create an antenna with a rugged, sleek design suitable for bringing
DIRECTV programming to vehicles traveling on open roads across the
U.S. "With more than 135 digitally delivered channels in our TOTAL
CHOICE(R) MOBILE package, LimoLiner passengers, whether they are
commuting business professionals, students, or Red Sox fans taking
a trip to Yankee Stadium to see a game, will now be treated to the
best television experience with programming that fits any
preference or need," said Daren Benzi, vice president of sales
development and strategy for DIRECTV, Inc. "In many areas, these
passengers would not be able to receive the same level of choice in
programming at home from their local cable operator, let alone
cruising down I-95." The demand for live DIRECTV in limousines
continues to grow, according to Ian Palmer, KVH's executive vice
president for satellite sales: "An increasing number of limousine
owners are recognizing the clear value of offering their passengers
live DIRECTV programming on trips. Business passengers especially
want to stay up-to-date with the latest news and information, and
the TracVision A5 and DIRECTV's digital satellite TV service allows
them to do that even while they are on the go." The TracVision A5's
impact on the automotive market has not gone unrecognized. It
received the 2004 "Most Innovative Product Design" Award from
General Motors as well as the Market Leadership Award from industry
research firm Frost & Sullivan, which recognized KVH's
pioneering efforts to develop and support the automotive satellite
TV marketplace. KVH was also a finalist for the prestigious 2005
Automotive News PACE Award, as well as a Consumer Electronics
Association "Design & Innovation Honoree," among others.
Additionally, Cadillac, a division of General Motors, recently
became the first automotive brand to offer DIRECTV satellite TV
programming as an accessory option through authorized dealers.
