Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise
time and frequency technologies that accelerate the deployment and
enable the management of next generation networks, today announced
that SK Broadband, Koreas major cable broadband service provider,
has selected Symmetricoms DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service
Interface Specifications) Timing Interface (DTI) Server to enable
the deployment of 150-megabits-per-second broadband cable services.
Symmetricoms TimeCreator 1000, the first DTI Compliant Server
qualified by CableLabs, provides the precise time and frequency
synchronization critical for delivery of new broadband cable
services. SK Broadband is recognized as a worldwide broadband
service provider dedicated to technology adoption and leading
deployment strategies, commented Mr. Young Il Lee, team leaderof
broadband network planning in the technology strategy unit at SK
Broadband (formerly Hanaro Telecom). Symmetricoms TimeCreator
allows us to deploy solutions that provide more bandwidth at a
lower cost, as well as flexibility for advanced network
architectures with greater options. The TimeCreator 1000 DTI
Server allows SK Broadbands network architecture to be fully
DOCSIS 3.0 and Modular Cable Modem Termination System (M-CMTS)
compliant, the key industry standards for next generation cable
modem services. SK Broadband began providing residential users in
Korea with 100Mbps broadband services over hybrid fiber-coaxial
(HFC) networks in April 2007, reaching more than 600,000 customers.
Symmetricoms TimeCreator supports SK Broadbands ability to cost
effectively increase its offering to 150Mbps. SK Broadband is
currently the Korean market leader in high-speed HFC Internet
services. TimeCreator is designed to deliver reliable and precise
time and frequency synchronization for cable networks. A feature
rich DTI Server with high availability, automatic root recovery,
redundant clock cards, redundant power supplies and optional GPS
traceability, TimeCreator 1000 is a fundamental part of a cable
operators headend or hub network deploying M-CMTS and DOCSIS.
TimeCreator, our leading DOCSIS synchronization technology,
enables SK Broadband to deploy new services with the flexibility to
balance economics, scalability, functionality and carrier class
reliability, commented Jeremy Bennington, director of business
development at Symmetricom. Bringing multiple vendors together to
optimize networks requires precise synchronization of the entire
network. TimeCreator is a key part of the solution to bring
cost-effective reliability and flexibility to the SK Broadband
network. SK Broadbands installation of TimeCreator is being
provided by Sys Cable, a Symmetricom distributor. This is the first
large scale deployment of Symmetricoms DTI Server by an
international operator. For more information on Symmetricoms
