Time Warner Telecom Wins Metro Ethernet Contract From HCA/HealthONE
- HealthONE Becomes 500th Metro Ethernet Customer - DENVER, Oct. 27
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom , a leading provider
of local and regional optical broadband networks and services to
businesses in Denver and 43 other U.S. markets, today announced the
competitive award of a 5-year contract to deliver local metro
Ethernet data services to HCA/HealthONE, LLC in Denver. The Time
Warner Telecom service will enable HealthONE to establish a virtual
private network between six of its hospitals in the Denver metro
area for high-speed data communications and dedicated Internet
access. High-capacity transmission speeds and connections between
multiple locations are essential in supporting the health care
provider's Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS)
applications because image files, such as a magnetic resonance
L-Spine image, can average up to 100 megabytes or more per image.
"This system increases our current network capacity 10-fold," said
Roland Sawyer, IS director, HCA/HealthONE. "It will improve
efficiency for our medical professionals and lead to better care
for our patients. It will also ensure virtually uninterrupted
transmission of our critical medical communications." Time Warner
Telecom currently provides data communications service to Sky Ridge
Medical Center in Douglas County and will now build its fiber
connectivity directly into additional HealthONE hospitals,
including: The Medical Center of Aurora, Presbyterian/St. Luke's
Medical Center, Rose Medical Center, Spalding Rehabilitation
Hospital, Swedish Medical Center, and to the HealthONE offices
located at South Colorado Blvd. "Our Native LAN services provide
unique benefits to businesses in search of greater value,
affordable Internet and data connections, easy upgrades for
scalability and simple customer management of proven Ethernet
technology," said Jeff Wiley, vice president and general manager
for Time Warner Telecom in Denver. "Many older technologies like
ISDN, Frame Relay and ATM only talked about these benefits that
Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN metro Ethernet delivers today. "We
look forward to continuing our relationship with HealthONE and
enabling them to meet their critical communications needs that our
high-capacity Native LAN service delivers. This is the technology
that helps medical facilities meet HIPAA requirements for secure
patient data," Wiley added. HealthONE becomes Time Warner Telecom's
500th Native LAN customer since it generally launched its metro
Ethernet Native LAN services last March. "Customer acceptance of
this innovative technology and metro Ethernet solutions has been
impressive across all market segments," said Mike Rouleau, senior
vice president - Business Development for Time Warner Telecom.
"These very high-speed, flexible metro Native LAN services are
designed to deliver customers up to 100 times faster connection
speeds at lower prices than traditional networks can offer.
Extremely reliable and secure, Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN
products represent one of the most comprehensive suites of Ethernet
services available in the industry. Time Warner Telecom's Native
LAN services are available from 10 Mbps to 1 Gbps, with plans to
expand up to 10 Gbps." "Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN products
are available to all businesses in a wide variety of industry
applications, including Ethernet Internet access and storage
transport," said Graham Taylor, senior vice president - Marketing
for Time Warner Telecom. "Our metro Ethernet services are now
available to over 3,600 buildings in 44 U.S. metropolitan areas in
22 states over our own local fiber optic networks. We can also
provide a complete network design solution for our customers by
accessing our Type II buildings within our metro areas. As our
customer references indicate, designing the right solution for the
customer's application is an important value Time Warner Telecom
provides." Customers already experiencing the value of Time Warner
Telecom Native LAN services include: First Tennessee National
(Memphis, Tenn.), Bank of the West (San Francisco), Epic Imaging
(Portland, Ore.), Carondelet Health Network (Tucson, Ariz.), New
York Unified Court System (Albany, N.Y.), University of Rochester
(Rochester, N.Y.), Misys Healthcare Systems (Tucson, Ariz.), San
Diego City Office of Education (San Diego, Calif.), The Freeman
Companies (Dallas), Digital River (Minneapolis, Minn.), Fortix
(Portland, Ore.) Ingersoll Rand (Indianapolis, Ind.), University of
Dallas (Dallas), Charlson Broadcasting Technologies (Cincinnati,
Ohio), Community Medical Centers (Fresno, Calif.), Lexington
Medical Center (Columbia, S.C.) and St. Petersburg College (Tampa,
Fla.). "Delivering Ethernet services into the metro is expected to
be a primary force driving future sales of optical equipment," said
Jimmy Yu, a telecommunications analyst covering the optical
transport market for the research firm Dell'Oro Group. "The
utilization of Ethernet switches, DWDM, and SONET lets Time Warner
Telecom deliver tiered Ethernet services while taking advantage of
the inherit capabilities of each technology rather than forcing one
platform to do it all." Time Warner Telecom Native LAN services are
available in three packages, depending upon a customer's size and
its needs. About Time Warner Telecom Time Warner Telecom Inc.,
