Visteon Distribution Operations Manager Shares Insight, Perspective
on Logistics Practices DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ --
Ron Huston, distribution operations manager for Visteon
Corporation's (NYSE:VC) Aftermarket, spoke today at the fifth
annual Autologistics Global Conference about what it takes to
implement a robust aftermarket and service parts distribution
strategy. (Logo:

spoke of the progress Visteon's materials management team has made
in North America in reducing distribution and inventory complexity,
while working to exceed customer expectations. Huston oversees
Visteon's distribution operations for Visteon's Aftermarket in
North America. "We are striving to become a world-class
organization in the way we manage our supply chain," said Huston.
"We view the supply chain from a total-cost perspective, starting
with our own suppliers that feed parts and components into our own
value stream. It's along this stream that there is an opportunity
for Tier 1 suppliers to reduce unnecessary costs that add little,
if any, value to the customer. For example, by reducing the number
of sites shipping to one customer location for redistribution
throughout a particular customer's network, we can reduce inventory
carrying costs, packaging and freight or expediting costs
significantly and thereby enhance our ability to serve our
customers." Huston also cited two strategies that are helping
Visteon improve product distribution: shipping directly from the
supply point to the customer, when possible; and consolidating
distribution when such constraints as lead times, shipping windows,
changing schedules and engineering changes compromise shipping
directly to the customer. Huston closed his presentation by
emphasizing the need for each individual supplier to understand its
logistics costs for each product shipped within its supply chain;
to steadfastly focus on the bottom line delivered to the final
customer, not the individual components of cost; to work with
logistics professionals to create profiles for ideal part
distribution methods based on part cost, size, order pattern and
overall supply chain complexity and product life cycle; and to view
the overall supply chain as a competitive advantage for increasing
customer satisfaction overall. Visteon Corporation is a leading
full-service supplier that delivers consumer-driven technology
solutions to automotive manufacturers worldwide and through
multiple channels within the global automotive aftermarket. Visteon
has approximately 72,000 employees and a global delivery system of
more than 200 technical, manufacturing, sales and service
facilities located in 25 countries.
