Regulatory News:
Wavecom (Paris:AVM) (NASDAQ:WVCM) announces that it will be
showcasing its expertise in embedded wireless technologies for
machine-to-machine (M2M) and automotive solutions at the Mobile
World Congress in Barcelona, from 16 to 19 February 2009. Wavecom
will exhibit a vast portfolio of technology innovations including
hardware, software and services.
Among the most exciting innovations are two new members of
Wavecoms popular Plug & Play family of Wireless CPU devices.
The brand new Fastrack Xtend provides a highly extendable
platform for the creation of a wide range of M2M solutions, with
versions supporting GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA, CDMA 1xRTT and
CDMA EVDO. Like the existing Fastrack Supreme, all 3GPP versions
feature a slot for adding expansion cards, enabling customers to
add extra functionalities of their choice. Fastrack Xtend comes
with both RS232 and USB interfaces, and provides twin antennae RX
diversity for 3G models. It is powered via USB or an external
supply and can be delivered with an internal battery as an option.
The entire range is programmable with simple AT commands and the
3GPP versions are also programmable in C and/or Lua. By embedding
their C/Lua application software directly on the Fastrack Xtend,
Wavecom customers can transform it into their own standalone
product.
A brand new breed of product from Wavecom is the Fastrack
GO, whose line-up offers GSM/GPRS connectivity to any machine,
with EDGE and HSPA versions to follow in the future. Offering the
ultimate in Plug & Play installation, Fastrack GO plugs into
any device and is then ready to make the cellular connection. At
just 120x40x30mm, Fastrack GO is one of the worlds smallest
ready-to-go cellular modems. Fastrack GO comes in two different
configurations, enabling customers to choose either DB9 or USB
interconnectivity.
On the software side, visitors can discover the newly introduced
M2M Studio, the first fully integrated development
environment for the creation of M2M and automotive products. M2M
Studio integrates previously isolated tools such as the source code
editor, project build wizard, target download, RTE mode monitor,
JTAG debugger, traces emulator and development tool chain, all
within the Eclipse Ganymede framework. It features an easy-to-use
graphical user interface (GUI) as well as improved and integrated
GUI-based documentation.
Wavecom is also proud to present Xpresso, a new
out-of-box Discover & Learn tool to get host based
application developers up and running in less than five minutes.
Xpresso enables ultra-fast configuration of modems as well as easy
access to basic modem features. The hyper-easy graphical user
interface enables the user to access to these features while
simultaneously visualising the AT commands that will be needed in
the product development. Supported features include automatic
device search, SMS send and receive, and the setup of a GPRS
connection to the Internet for web browsing, email, FTP and
more.
No wireless hardware and software product line up is complete
without a service offering, and Wavecom is pleased to announce that
its Intelligent Device Services (IDS) offer is now fully
available for a wide range of Wavecom Wireless CPU Devices. IDS
provides a secure end-to-end solution enabling remote monitoring
and configuration of the Wavecom Wireless CPU, remote network and
traffic analysis, and software upgrades over-the-air for any
machine which integrates an IDS-compatible Wavecom Wireless CPU.
The offer is available as a Premium Pack, which gives the customer
unlimited access to the services, or as a Pay-Per-Use option for
spot software upgrades. In both cases, the diagnostics and upgrade
process is fully managed by the customer. Show visitors in
Barcelona can sign up for a fully operational free trial for remote
wireless management of up to 100 devices.
The Mobile World Congress also represents an opportunity for
visitors to discover Wavecoms competencies in the ODM (Original
Design Manufacturer) space. Indeed, Wavecom is increasingly taking
on design and integration assignments for third parties, and will
showcase and demonstrate a series of solution designs which are
available as ODM services.
Among the solutions on display is a domestic alarm proof of
concept, demonstrating a remote home surveillance solution. The
proof of concept integrates a complete home alarm system into a
Wavecom Wireless Microprocessor, including ZigBee and WiFi
capabilities in addition to the cellular communications protocols.
The Wireless Microprocessor runs the entire alarm system, from the
management of sensors to the back office system. New audio features
in the Open AT Operating System also provide consumer features
such as voice memo for active families leaving messages for each
other.
An automotive emergency call proof of concept will take
visitors on a journey to the future of automotive telematics. The
solution integrates eCall (emergency call), an interactive audio
user interface, GPS and support for IDS, all on a single Wavecom
Wireless CPU.
Both the alarm and the eCall designs also integrate a
server-side solution from Wavecoms subsidiary Anyware
Technologies. The Anyware solution which is independent from the
Wavecom platform and can be used with wireless modules from any
vendor facilitates data management via a rich web interface. In
the alarm proof of concept, the web interface enables consumers to
manage their home alarms at a distance and get alerted. In the
eCall design, the web application is used to track a series of
devices, show location history for a given device, or remotely set
up geo-fencing alerts.
Wavecom will also demonstrate a reference design for wireless
EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) terminals, developed in
partnership with Innova Card (recently acquired by Maxim). Thanks
to a virtualized communication interface, a single Q26 Series
Wavecom Wireless CPU can simultaneously manage multiple
communication technologies. The reference design integrates data
reception and transfer via any type of bearer, such as PSTN, WiFi,
WiMax, Ethernet, GPRS, CDMA, EDGE, WCDMA or HSPA, without any
modification to the payment and security interface.
Visitors can also explore a range of Wavecom Technology
Evaluators. These fully-fledged Wireless CPU devices consist
of a Wavecom Wireless Microprocessor emulating the behaviour of
other devices, allowing customers and prospects to test the
capabilities of the Wireless Microprocessor without significant
alterations of their existing hardware designs.
Last but not least, a brand new product line will be
announced at the opening day of the show.
On Wednesday 18 February, Olivier Beaujard, Vice President
Business Development at Wavecom, will speak at the Embedded Mobile
Seminar which takes place in the GSMA Pavilion, Hall 7, stand
7P01from 2 to 5 pm.
