Lilly ICOS Announces Plans to Usher in Second Century of History
and Tradition at the 2004 Cialis Western Open -- New Title Sponsor
Creating Distinct Initiatives to Enhance Fans' Enjoyment of the
Event -- BOTHELL, Wash. and INDIANAPOLIS, May 18
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As the Western Open makes the turn into
its second century of play, the tournament's new title sponsor,
Cialis(R) (tadalafil), introduced a series of initiatives today
designed to enhance fans' enjoyment of the event and pay homage to
the Western Open's rich history and tradition. Cialis is the only
oral erectile dysfunction treatment on the market shown to improve
erectile function up to 36 hours in most men. Cialis is the title
sponsor of the Western Open through 2006. Today, Lilly ICOS, maker
of Cialis, introduced elements for the tournament featuring "local
flavor" to celebrate the city of Chicago. The interactive fan
elements will debut at this summer's Cialis Western Open (CWO),
which will be held June 28 - July 4 in Lemont, Ill. Fans in
attendance at the 101st edition of the event will find the
following on-site elements on the host grounds of Cog Hill Golf
Club: * Entrance Walk featuring images of past champions and
memorable moments in the event's history. * Artist Experience
featuring several local artists capturing images of the week. *
Food Court offering cuisine from famous Chicago-area restaurants. *
Digital Locator Board allowing fans to immediately locate any
player on the course. * Relaxation Booths providing fans a cool
area to escape the heat. * Cialis Fan Tent presenting "Tips for
Enjoying Your Golf Game." "As title sponsor, Cialis looks to
celebrate the cherished memories the event has produced over the
years, while sharing in the memorable moments to come in the next
century," said Paul Clark, chairman and CEO of ICOS Corporation.
"We're hopeful that our new initiatives will enhance fans'
enjoyment of the event and the game of golf, and continue to make
this tournament an enjoyable experience for both the players and
the fans." Entrance Walk The centerpiece of the fan experience is
the panoramic CWO Entrance Walk, featuring images of past champions
and memorable moments from the first 100 years of Western Open
history. The tournament's most celebrated winners including Walter
Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer and Jack
Nicklaus are featured along with modern-day greats of the game,
like three-time defending champion Tiger Woods. The Entrance Walk
is positioned so that fans experience the history and tradition of
the oldest non-major on the PGA TOUR as they enter the grounds.
Artist Experience To showcase the talent of Chicago-area artists in
a studio setting, fans can take part in the Artist Experience,
located on the walkway adjacent to the 18th hole throughout the
week of the tournament. Several prominent artists from the Lemont
(Ill.) Artists' Guild will capture images from the event on canvas.
Those images can be turned into electronic postcards for spectators
to send to their friends and family back home from an e-mail kiosk.
The artists' renderings will be auctioned off in August to raise
money for the Evans Scholars Foundation, the nation's largest
privately funded college scholarship program, providing full
tuition and housing grants to deserving caddies. Food Court To
further celebrate the local flavor of Chicago, a food court
featuring specialties from popular Chicago restaurants will be
available to fans. The food court, located next to the media tent,
is centered on a four-sided center island bar with televisions
allowing fans to follow tournament coverage. To guarantee the
authentic feel of these local Chicago favorites, several local
establishments will participate. Digital Locator Board As fans
progress through the Entrance Walk, they will encounter a digital
locator board that enables them to find any player on the course
and see their scores. Fans will also be able to view immediate
information on the day's action, like the leaderboard, pairings,
locator boards, course map and leader profiles on a four-color
display. Relaxation Booths For fans braving the heat of the
Midwestern summer, the Relaxation Booths will offer them a cool
area to escape the heat. The booths feature water misters to
provide some relief from the heat, a lounge area where fans can
take a break and sit down in a comfortable setting, and a plasma
screen to keep up with tournament coverage. Cialis Fan Tent The
Cialis Fan Tent, titled "Tips for Enjoying Your Golf Game," offers
fans unique perspectives into their own golf games and insights
from renowned experts. Visitors to the fan tent can receive a
skills assessment and "video lesson" for improving their golf game
designed by sports psychologist Dr. Rick Jensen, who advises many
top professional golfers. Additional information for improving your
golf game, written by Drs. Richard Keefe of Duke University and
Andy Dombro of The Institute for Medicine & Golf, will also be
available to attendees. In addition, fans everywhere can visit
http://www.cialis.pgatour.com/ to experience many of the innovative
elements of the Cialis golf platform, including tips for improving
your golf game and vignettes featuring memorable moments on the PGA
TOUR. Also, through its partnership with the PGA TOUR, Lilly ICOS
offers consumers information about ED and Cialis on-site in the
Cialis tent. Consumers may pick up brochures on ED or Cialis, and
access the Cialis Web site, http://www.cialis.com/ , to get more
information about Cialis. "Our sponsorship of the Cialis Western
Open features components that highlight the emotional and mental
aspects of golf, which we believe is one of the best ways to
connect with the people who watch and play golf," said Clark. "We
believe we've developed a unique presence for ourselves at the
Cialis Western Open. Our overall golf platform and sponsorship of
the Cialis Western Open, as well as our four-year commitment to the
PGA TOUR, all have the common thread of celebrating golf moments
and helping golfers of all levels relax and enjoy the game." About
Cialis Cialis, approved by the FDA in November 2003 for the
treatment of erectile dysfunction, is the first oral ED treatment
shown to improve erectile function up to 36 hours in most men.
Cialis can be taken without regard to food. The absorption of
Cialis is not affected by food, including high-fat foods. Cialis is
currently available in more than 55 countries including Australia,
Brazil, Mexico, Canada, the United States and countries throughout
Europe. Nearly two million patients have been treated with Cialis
since its first introduction in February 2003. Cialis is available
by prescription only and is not for everyone. Men taking nitrates,
often used for chest pain, or certain alpha-blockers for prostate
problems or high blood pressure, should not take Cialis. Such
combinations could cause a sudden, unsafe drop in blood pressure.
Men should discuss their health status with their doctors to ensure
Cialis is right for them and that they are healthy enough for
sexual activity. The most common side effects with Cialis were
headache, upset stomach, delayed backache or muscle ache. Although
rare, men who experience an erection for more than 4 hours should
seek immediate medical attention. Men should not drink alcohol in
excess with Cialis. Cialis studies were not designed to assess
multiple intercourse attempts after a single dose. For full patient
