Exelon employee volunteers are investing their time and money in
their communities this holiday season by participating in more than
120 service projects in Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania and the
District of Columbia to mark #GivingTuesday. Employees volunteered
9,300 hours in November – including mentoring students, collecting
food and wrapping toys for families in need – in the lead up to the
national day of giving. Approximately 1,400 Exelon employees
participated in company-sponsored volunteer projects.
#GivingTuesday, which takes place tomorrow, Dec. 1, encourages
individuals to give back to their communities, in contrast to the
retail industry’s “Black Friday" and “Cyber Monday” shopping days.
It promotes acts of kindness, charitable donations and volunteer
work during the holiday season. In addition to organizing employee
volunteer projects, Exelon on #GivingTuesday will match employee
charitable donations of $100 or more, dollar for dollar and
contribute an additional donation of $100 to employees’ charities
of choice.
“Our employees are carrying out Exelon’s commitment to giving
back this holiday season, through volunteer service and
contributions to nonprofits that serve our most vulnerable
citizens,” said Steve Solomon, vice president of corporate
relations at Exelon. “We’re proud of our employees for their
charitable work and the differences they’re making in their
communities.”
One volunteer project in the District of Columbia last week
brought together dozens of employees from both Exelon and Pepco
Holdings to support people in the community who are homeless.
Volunteers from the two companies, which are seeking to merge,
worked with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington to
cook and serve a Thanksgiving dinner and provide winter coats to
more than 200 homeless individuals in the District.
Volunteers for #GivingTuesday service projects included
employees from all of Exelon’s businesses, including BGE and
Constellation in central Maryland, ComEd in northern Illinois, PECO
in southeastern Pennsylvania, and Exelon Generation and Exelon
Business Services Company in all three states. Exelon employees
across these regions also are leading more than 20 food, clothing
and toy drives or similar events to support their communities this
holiday season.
This year Exelon employees have volunteered a total of more than
106,000 hours to service projects and pledged more than $6.26
million through Exelon’s employee giving campaign, exceeding the
company’s goal. This comprehensive program benefits Exelon’s
commitment to education, the environment, diversity and inclusion,
and community engagement.
