CINCINNATI, Dec. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- During this
holiday season, The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) is donating an additional
$3 million to local food banks
through its annual Bringing Hope to the Table campaign.
"Kroger is a champion in fighting hunger across America," said
Erin Sharp, Kroger's group vice
president, manufacturing. "Our associates help families put
nutritious, wholesome food on their tables every day. That includes
the families in our communities who struggle with empty
plates."
A founding member of the nation's largest hunger-relief
organization, Feeding America, Kroger and its family of stores work
year-round with more than 100 local food banks to fight hunger.
#PictureYourPlate
To raise awareness about food insecurity during this holiday
season, Kroger is asking customers to "picture your plate" without
the foods that nourish your family – because for 1 in 8 people,
this is an everyday reality. Until December
31, 2016, when you share a photo of your empty dinner plate
with the hashtag #PictureYourPlate, Kroger will donate the
equivalent of 1,000 meals to Feeding America, up to 3.3 million
meals.
Easy Ways to Help
Shoppers at Kroger's family of stores will find a variety of
quick, easy opportunities to make small donations that will help
fight hunger in local communities. Customers are also invited to
visit BringingHopetotheTable.com, where they can simply enter their
zip code to learn about the scope of food insecurity in their own
hometowns, and ways they can lend a hand.
Your Flu Shot Does More at Kroger
Kroger Pharmacies, The Little Clinic and Feeding America are
also partnering to fight influenza and hunger. For every flu shot
administered at Kroger family of pharmacies or The Little Clinic
locations, Kroger will donate one meal through the Feeding America
network of food banks.
Every day, the Kroger Family of Companies makes a difference in
the lives of eight and a half million customers and 431,000
associates who shop or serve in 2,796 retail food stores under a
variety of local banner names in 35 states and the District of Columbia. Kroger and its
subsidiaries operate an expanding ClickList offering – a
personalized, order online, pick up at the store service – in
addition to 2,253 pharmacies, 787 convenience stores, 324 fine
jewelry stores, 1,439 supermarket fuel centers and 38 food
production plants in the United
States. Kroger is recognized as one of America's most
generous companies for its support of more than 100 Feeding America
food bank partners, breast cancer research and awareness, the
military and their families, and more than 145,000 community
organizations including schools. A leader in supplier diversity,
Kroger is a proud member of the Billion Dollar
Roundtable.
