Telecom Italia SpA (TIT.MI) said its board of directors still
backs Chief Executive Amos Genish after he said he regretted having
made recent comments about some board members.
The board discussed Mr. Genish's comments and acknowledged "his
clarifications on the matter and his regret for having made
inappropriate comments, subsequently amplified by the media,"
Telecom Italia said late Monday .
"The Board confirms that its members share a common vision and
objectives for TIM, and continue to support the management team,"
it said.
In May, American activist fund Elliott Management Corp. took
over two-thirds of Telecom Italia's board in a shareholder vote,
following a long-running power struggle with majority shareholder
Vivendi SA (VIV.FR).
