LETTER TO:   COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENTS OFFICE

We have been advised today by Montanaro Fund Managers Limited that Montanaro UK
Special Situations Fund (which it manages) purchased 4,000,000 ordinary shares
of 25p each in Armour Trust plc on 8 January 1998 at a price of 20p per share.
The vendors were Anin Investments Holdings Limited ("Anin") and Casman
Investments Limited ("Casman").

As a result of this transaction the beneficial holding of Anin/Casman in the
issued capital of Armour Trust of 37,516,086 ordinary shares has reduced to
3,100,000 (8.26%) and the number of shares over which Montanaro Fund Managers
has discretionary control (but not beneficial ownership) has increased from
2,793,243 (7.45%) to 6,793,243 (18.11%).
