Data convergence ahead of schedule
Resources reallocated to DataStar development
London 3 July 1998: The Dialog Corporation plc announced today that as a
result of its data convergence progressing well, significant human and
financial resources are to be released and will be used to further enhance
DataStar and DataStarWeb in Bern, Switzerland. It will also allow the
introduction of innovative new products from The Dialog Corporation sooner
than anticipated.
Ciaran Morton, Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa, The
Dialog Corporation said:
"We have successfully implemented our new telecommunications backbone,
providing us with real-time links between customers and data centres. These
developments now enable us to provide customers with all the benefits of
convergence without having to physically relocate all of the resources. We
are able to merge the data into one location, saving on time and costs, while
interface management and maintenance will remain separate. Therefore, access
to the DIALOG, DataStar and Profound services will remain unaffected by the
technological convergence continuing in the background, and indeed be enhanced
by new interfaces."
The Dialog Corporation will enhance DataStar with key scientific and medical
databases and release new versions of DataStar for Windows (formerly known as
KR ProBase) and DataStarWeb. The range and quality of content available
through these services will continue and European language data will be
expanded. The Dialog Corporation convergence already in place will allow for
centralised administration, simplified pricing and single billing, for all
customers of DataStar, DIALOG and Profound.
Dan Wagner, Chief Executive of The Dialog Corporation added:
"We are now able to commit considerably greater resources to developing the
DataStar product range without affecting the level of cost savings envisaged
in our integration plan. We are also ahead of schedule on the application of
InfoSort to all of our databases, allowing us to build new and improved
products at a faster rate."
These new products will be capable of simultaneously searching across all the
files of The Dialog Corporation, utilising new technology platforms with a
range of web-based interfaces focusing on specific vertical markets.
