Launch of world's first combined advertising and touch-screen 'Iconic Pod'
Advertising on digital screen network to generate 3.7million net revenue per year
Vision Media Group (International) plc (AIM:VMG), the outdoor media contractor, today announces the launch and deployment of its Iconic
Pods, creating the UK's largest portrait-style digital screen shopping mall network.
100 new double-sided Iconic Pods have been ordered which will add an extra 200 portrait advertising screens to VMG's shopping mall
network, and bring the total of installed screens to 240 reaching a monthly audience of in excess of 50 million consumers at the
point-of-purchase. Deployment of the Iconic Pods will commence in phases in late September and early October 2008.
The unique Iconic Pods, which were designed by VMG's in-house product development team which has outsourced the manufacturing to a
UK-based technology company. The initial fleet of 100 units will be in situ in shopping malls across the UK ahead of the 2008 Christmas
period, traditionally one of the biggest spending quarters in the advertising year.
Clear Channel Outdoor UK will be responsible for the procurement of national advertising across the VMG shopping mall network. The Board
believes that, assuming cautious utilisation, and based on standard advertising values of traditional print posters in the mall environment,
VMG will receive an annual net revenue of 3.7 million from these 240 screens.
The Iconic Pods will revolutionise advertising opportunities and consumer interactivity in UK shopping malls. Each unit's touch-screen
and video capabilities create an engaging interactive data collection facility at the point-of-purchase. With incentives such as the
dispensing of coupons, loyalty cards recruitment and way-finder services all incorporated into the unit, the Iconic Pods offer an innovative
marketing opportunity that actively engages with the consumer.
The purchase of the first 100 pods has been facilitated by the drawing down of the funds provided by Trafalgar Capital Specialised
Investment Fund ("Trafalgar Capital"), as announced on 28 May 2008. A tranche of 225,000 has been drawn down on 14 August 2008 to enable
the process to begin. An additional tranche of 200,000 will be drawn by 31st August, subject to certain operational criteria.
Further distribution of the Iconic Pods across VMG's mall portfolio will be self-funded by the sale of advertising on installed units.
Mike Cottman, Executive Chairman of VMG, commented: "The launch of our Iconic Pods is a fundamental sea-change in the development of
mall advertising in the UK. We have created a product that will provide a platform for the national market to rival the success of digital
out of home advertising worldwide and generate significant revenue for the Group. The financial support from Trafalgar Capital has enabled
us to develop this world-first product and make what will be the largest portrait-style digital network in the UK."
