LONDON--Wincanton PLC (WIN.LN), a provider of supply chain
services in the U.K. & Ireland, Monday announced that it has
been awarded a multi-million five-year contract by supermarket
group Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC (MRW.LN) to operate its first
ever dedicated U.K. convenience distribution centre in London.
MAIN FACTS:
-The contract is for combined warehouse and transport
operations, supported by Wincanton's system platform.
-Morrisons recently announced plans to open 20 new convenience
stores across the U.K. by the end of 2012 following successful
trials of its "M Local" format in Leeds, Manchester and
Birmingham.
-The new 100,000 square foot cross-dock distribution centre will
open in Feltham early next year.
-Shares closed Friday at 64 pence valuing the company at GBP77
million.
