Kent Kresa Elected to GM Board of Directors
DETROIT, Oct. 6 -- General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) Chairman
Rick Wagoner today announced the election of Kent Kresa to the GM Board of
Directors effective immediately. He becomes a member of the board's Audit and
Investment Funds Committees. Kresa's election increases the membership of the
GM board to 11, of whom 10 are independent, outside directors.
Kresa, 65, was chairman of the board of directors of Northrop Grumman
Corp. from September 1990 until October 1, 2003. He had served as chief
executive officer from January 1990 until March 2003, and president from 1987
until September 2001. He had previously served as group vice president of the
company's Aircraft Group and senior vice president-Technology Development and
Planning.
"Kent brings to the GM Board a strong track record of proven business
leadership as well as a rich and extensive background in engineering, research
and technology," Wagoner said.
George Fisher, chair of the board's Directors and Corporate Governance
Committee, said, "On behalf of the GM Board, we're excited to have Kent join
our board and we look forward to working with him."
Kresa, born March 24, 1938, in New York City, is a graduate of the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He earned a bachelor's degree in
1959, a master's degree in 1961, and an engineering degree in 1966, all in
Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Kresa serves on the boards of Advanced Bionics; Avery Dennison
Corporation; Fluor Corporation; Eclipse Aviation Corporation; Trust Company of
the West; and several non-profit organizations and universities.
