Mining Companies Lift FTSE 100
0859 GMT - Shares in the largest U.K. mining companies are
making strong gains on Friday morning, providing some relief for
the commodity-heavy FTSE 100. Chilean copper producer Antofagasta
is topping the London index as it rises 2.8%. Following suit,
shares in bigger brothers Glencore, Rio Tinto and Anglo American
also advance more than 2%. This is helping the FTSE 100 edge up
0.1%. The U.K.'s blue-chip index is on track for its strongest week
of gains since March, driven by a rebound in the retail sector, CMC
Markets analyst Michael Hewson said in a note before the market
Anglo Asian Mining Seeks Shareholder Approval to Buy Back
Anglo Asian Mining PLC said Friday that it is seeking
shareholder approval to buy back up to 10% of its shares as the
board believes the company's market capitalization doesn't fairly
