Mining Companies Lift FTSE 100

0859 GMT - Shares in the largest U.K. mining companies are making strong gains on Friday morning, providing some relief for the commodity-heavy FTSE 100. Chilean copper producer Antofagasta is topping the London index as it rises 2.8%. Following suit, shares in bigger brothers Glencore, Rio Tinto and Anglo American also advance more than 2%. This is helping the FTSE 100 edge up 0.1%. The U.K.'s blue-chip index is on track for its strongest week of gains since March, driven by a rebound in the retail sector, CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson said in a note before the market opened.
