(CTIA Wireless 2010, booth #722) -
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world
leader in high availability and secure mobile communication
technology, today announced that its portfolio of location-based
services (LBS) was selected by Frost & Sullivan for its Product
Line Strategy Award. This award is presented each year to the
company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs
and product demands. TCS's superlative performance is the result of
leveraging products with the price, performance, and feature points
the market requires. TCS was selected for the award through
in-depth interviews and primary market analysis conducted by Frost
& Sullivan's industry analyst team.
"TCS is a true end-to-end solution provider in the LBS space,
offering an impressive and comprehensive location product and
service portfolio," said Brent Iadarola, Global Research Director
for Mobile Communications at Frost and Sullivan. "Today's LBS value
chain includes five major elements: LBS applications, mapping and
data servers, middleware, location servers and location assistance
services. In this environment, TCS is unique in that it provides a
complete end-to-end LBS solution that includes a comprehensive
applications portfolio, mapping and data servers, a robust
middleware platform, location servers (i.e. GMLC, SLMC, SUPL
Server, MPC) and LBS Assistance Data Services."
TCS has offered wireless E9-1-1 services since 1997 and
commercial LBS services since 2002. In May 2009, TCS acquired the
LBS assets of LocationLogic, adding two leading location-based
applications and additional depth to its Xypoint® LBS
infrastructure platform for wireless carriers. In December 2009,
TCS acquired Networks In Motion, thereby bringing a Tier 1
market-leading navigation business into its portfolio.
"Over the past several years, remarkable advances in LBS have
raised consumer and enterprise awareness and fueled increased
demand," said Drew Morin, TCS' chief technology officer. "TCS
offers a complete LBS solution, and by partnering with wireless
operators worldwide we are directly shaping the future of location
technology. It is an honor to receive an accolade from a leading
analyst firm that recognizes the strength of our current LBS
solution and our vision for the future."
In addition to demonstrations of the latest infrastructure to
support LBS solutions, TCS will showcase several of its leading
wireless applications at CTIA. These include:
- Gokivo® Navigator based on the AtlasBook® reference platform: a
real-time turn-by-turn personal GPS navigation application with
integrated speech recognition and traffic
- People Locator: an application that gives consumers the ability
to securely share their location with family and friends as well as
to access other location-based information such as points of
interest
- Asset Locator: an on-demand mobile resource management solution
for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) that rely on a mobile
field workforce
- Telematics: an application for embeddable navigation and
real-time content for mobile and in-dash automotive products
