U.S. Offered EU Settlement in Aircraft-Subsidy Dispute -- Reuters
16 October 2020 - 5:10AM
Dow Jones News
--The U.S. has offered the European Union a settlement in an
international dispute over aircraft-manufacturing subsidies,
Reuters reports, citing sources close to the matter.
--In the offer, made by U.S. Trade Representative Robert
Lighthizer, the U.S. would remove tariffs on wine, whiskey and
other products if Airbus repays aid from European governments.
--The World Trade Organization has said that European
governments unfairly subsidized Airbus through low interest rates
on loans and that U.S.-based Boeing Co. has received unfair support
from American tax breaks.
--The EU is unlikely to support Mr. Lighthizer's proposal,
Reuters reports.
