Thales SA said Tuesday that it has signed a contract with U.S.
defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corp. for the supply of up to 55
anti-submarine warfare sonars to the U.S and other foreign
navies.
The contract is worth more than 100 million euros ($120.9
million), according to a person familiar with the matter.
As a tier-one supplier, the French aerospace-and-defense company
will deliver the sonars that will be installed on the platform of
MH-60R maritime helicopters built by Lockheed and used by the U.S.
Navy, Thales said.
"The navies of India, Greece and Denmark will receive the
helicopter dipping sonars through U.S. Foreign Military Sales of
the MH-60R," the company said.
Thales will deliver 42 airborne anti-submarine warfare sonars
over the next five years. The contract includes the option to
deliver 13 additional ones in year six, it said.
