Bowne Global Solutions and Capgemini Report Reveals Life Sciences
Companies 'Drastically Increasing' Need for Translation Services
Foreign market growth drives demand for translation; Most companies
attempting to handle in-house NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ --
Ninety percent of life sciences companies believe their need for
translation services will increase during the next five years, and
23% of those companies expect their need to increase drastically,
according to a new report produced by Capgemini, one of the world's
largest providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing
services. This report was produced on behalf of Bowne Global
Solutions (BGS), a leading provider of translation, localization,
technical publication and interpretation services, to determine
global expansion trends in the life sciences sector. It is based
upon interviews with executives at pharmaceutical and medical
device companies. Among survey respondents, 80% indicated that
international markets comprise at least 25% of their total company
revenue. This statistic reflects the foreign market growth that has
exploded in recent years, driving demand for translation and
localization service companies. However, despite the existence of
translation firms, 77% of life sciences companies prefer to handle
translation duties in-house, citing a desire to retain control of
the process. "The desire to retain control of the translation
process is understandable, yet pharmaceutical and medical device
companies have a responsibility to physicians and patients to
ensure that prescribing information, product directions and
marketing materials are correct. This requires meticulous
translation and a working knowledge of the specific language,
country and culture in which the product is launched," said Jim
Fagan, President and CEO of BGS. The survey also found that a
majority of respondents feel that translation is most critical for
regulatory processes (approximately 65%) and marketing support and
training (approximately 40%). BGS/Capgemini Report 2-2-2 "The
survey findings give us a look at the emerging trends and needs of
this important sector," said Ellen Hives, Vice President with
Capgemini. "While many companies are now trying to address their
translation needs in house, it's not their core competency. Many
are quickly realizing that it's more efficient and effective to use
experienced language services firms that can provide quality,
multilingual translations in-country anywhere in the world using
proven project management and production processes and
technologies. BGS, one of the most skilled and experienced firms in
this space, is already helping pharmaceutical and medical device
manufacturers navigate complicated regulatory processes that have
hindered time-to-market." About the Capgemini Group Capgemini, one
