Eveready Battery Co., Inc. Announces Recall of Toy Flashlight

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eveready Battery Co.,
Inc. today announced the voluntary recall of the Pirates of the
Caribbean Medallion Squeeze Light, sold under the Energizer brand.
In some samples tested through quality verification screening, the
company identified that the leather strap attached to the medallion
squeeze light contained paint with lead levels exceeding the U.S.
Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) toy safety standards.
Energizer distributed approximately 78,500 units of this product in
the U.S. market. The lights were assembled in the Peoples Republic
of China during the period from July 2006 to May 2007, and were
sold in retail stores beginning in September 2006. The lights are
no longer in production. Eveready Battery Co., Inc. is working in
cooperation with the CPSC to ensure no further distribution of this
product and that any units currently in the possession of the
public are returned for destruction. The company will offer
consumers an opportunity to return and exchange the recalled
product for coupons for other Energizer products. For more

consumers can call (800) 925-0628 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m. Central Time. Consumers also can go to energizer.com
for information about the refund process. The Website displays
photos of the recalled light and provides instructions on
exchanging the product. Consumers should not return recalled items
to retailers. Eveready is currently reevaluating its testing
policies and procedures to ensure that all of its products meet or
exceed government standards, and provide the assurance of quality
