MMX Minerao e Metlicos S.A. ("MMX" or "the Company") (Bovespa:
MMXM3) (TSX: XMM) informs its shareholders and investors that its
subsidiary, MMX Metlicos Corumb Ltda. ("MMX Metlicos"), has
acquired approximately 1 million cubic meters of planted pine
forest in the municipality of Ribas do Rio Pardo, in the state of
Mato Grosso do Sul. The timber will be transformed into charcoal
and will supply approximately 25% of MMX Metlico's pig iron plant
demand for the years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
With this acquisition, the Company takes a very important step
towards the consumption of charcoal produced exclusively from
planted forestry assets.
This initiative, as well as its on going self-sufficiency plan
in charcoal production from Companys own planted forests,
reinforces MMX's commitment to sustainable and environmentally
responsible operations.
