The Bank of England said Wednesday that Bradley Fried, Tim Frost and Dave Prentis have been appointed non-executive directors.

Their terms begin June 1, the central bank said. Appointments to the BOE's court of directors, its governing board, are recommended by the prime minister and the treasury and approved by the Queen.

Fried is a former chief executive of financial services firm Investec PLC (INVP.LN), while Frost is governor of the London School of Economics and a former banker. Prentis is general secretary of Unison, a U.K. trade union.

Current directors Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress; insurance industry veteran Mark Tucker; and Harrison Young, a director at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, retire from the board on May 31.
